      F1 2010
      Sep 08, 2010 03:52:46 pm
      Quote
F1 2010 will feature "the most complicated weather system ever seen in a racing game" [8]  which is integral to F1. When rain starts to fall, the track will gradually lose grip, with some areas losing grip faster than others. "Overhanging trees, for example, will shelter the track, while dips and indentations in the tarmac will hold more standing water and provide a greater risk." [9]

When the rain stops, a "drying line" will start to appear which will provide more grip which will make it easier to drive. If a car strays from the dry line, the tyres will lose grip and it will be harder to drive. Evolving track will also be featured elsewhere in the game; at the start of a race weekend, the track will be "green" and therefore have less grip, but as the weekend progresses, rubber will be laid down onto the track, increasing the grip.[9]

Research will also feature in F1 2010. Consistently out-race a teammate, and the player will receive new parts, updates and upgrades as they are developed. The player's team will develop new parts and updates for their car throughout the season, evolving the car as the season progresses.

The game will feature a career mode consisting of either three, five or seven seasons (depending on the user's choice). Where players can drive for any team, each having their own objectives – "For example, race for Ferrari and anything other than winning the Driver's and Constructor's Championship would be a failure, while a mere points finish when driving for Lotus would be a huge success."[9] Media interest will also differ depending on whether the player is racing for one of the top teams, or a team at the back of the grid and will reflect the progress the player makes; more success will equal more media attention. Impromptu interviews will take place alongside the official interviews following each race. The developer diaries released by Codemasters have revealed that impromptu interviews will be more sensationalist than formal press conferences and that the player may need to be wary of what they say to the media lest they say something they shouldn't and upset their team. Players will be forced to retire after the end of the third, fifth, or seventh season.

      Release Dates are:

      22nd September NA
      24th September EU

I've been looking very much forward to this game, but there was always going to be a major deal breaker - whether or not split screen would be featured? Answer to that question is, 'no'.

I really don't know now whether I should fork out the dough for this, as I'm going to have to dish out so much for other major titles such as GT5, MOH, COD Black Ops, Fifa 11 and Assassin's Creed.

I'll wait a little bit and see how the reviews of the game are before I purchase it.

      *EDIT*
F**k it, after watching the last Developer Diary, i'm hyped for this, and i'll get it...

I'm considering getting hold of a second hand Xbox 360 wheel as they're only a few quid on ebay then renting or buying this game.
I like racing games but tend to lose interest when I have to pi$$ about fine tuning the cars and setting then up for races. I'm not that mad on cars so it doesn't interest me.

Just wanted to know, is it possible to simply go through a season on this just racing and leaving everything else, or does that make in pretty impossible to be any good at it?

      leaving 'everything else?'

      what do you mean exactly?

A short race weekend is practice/quali and the race (minimum distance is 20% which is normally 9-16 laps)

You can skip practice and quali if you like as starting last on normal it isnt impossible to still win, and no you dont have to mess about with settings etc as there are pre-defined ones which again are fine for normal. :)

Sorry mate, I wasn't very clear. I just meant was it possible to do the races (including practice / qualifying) without having to worry about setting up things like downforce, camber etc etc.
You've basically answered that, I could just leave it on the pre-defined settings. Thanks.

Loving this game. Started career on the hard difficulty and getting some very good results in the BMW Sauber. Finished 4th in the last race at Istanbul. Totally bombed out in Monaco though. Currently 4th in the driver's standings.

Nah mate, Lotus is the fastest if you can drive it properly. Virgin is the easiest though apparently.

Got a few good results, a massive crash at Monza meant I got my first victory!!! ;D Alonso was catching me at a ridiculous rate but I held him off!

      Was well chuffed with that.

Anyone else find this game too hard when things like tyre simulation is on?

I usually turn it off and do 10 laps on optium then the last on prime.

Me and a mate went halves on this yesterday and took turns playing it for a few hours. Splitscreen would have been nice but it still kept us entertained. Menus are a bit confusing, I found but it seems like a really good game so far. Not easy if you're used to touring car style racing with powersliding and the likes, this can feel a bit 'twitchy'.

That was nearly a deal breaker for me, but i got it and don't regret it a single bit...

Their excuse was that having split-screen would hurt the frame rate or something, and after playing Monaco i'm inclined to believe them. There's this one corner in the game which lags every single time. Still, just a minor glitch in one circuit.

I would still love to see split-screen included in future games.

Do you have to get the 'wheel' handset thingy of does the normal handset work well?
Had the original version on ps1 years back and it was awesome.
Is it a great game still or is it super twitchy and difficult?

No, you don't need the wheel, it works fine with the standard controller. It is quite difficult if you're used to racing games where you can power slide and nudge opponents out of the way. I can imagine it would really tough with a wheel.
