Ligue 1 - Diarra training with Lyon

      Tue, 26 Jul 17:25:00 2011

Former Lyon midfielder and free agent Mahamadou Diarra has returned to his old club to train over the summer.

The Mali midfielder has returned to the club where he won four Ligue 1 titles and four French cups between 2002 and 2006, sparking speculation that he may return to the Stade de Gerland.

Diarra bought out his contract at Real Madrid in January and spent the second half of last season on loan at Monaco, but is now without a club for the first time in over a decade.

There will undoubtedly be no shortage of suitors for the defensive midfielder who at 30-years-old will still have a lot to offer at the top level of European football.

Strange  ???. I remember we had a reported 10m offer for him 2-3 years ago rejected and now they let him go for free. I wish we'd go for him as he's so much to offer though it's unlikely ;D

      JUVE ACCEPT PSG SISSOKO BID

Paris St Germain have struck a deal with Juventus to sign Mohamed Sissoko but the midfielder still needs to agree personal terms.

Stoke have also been linked with a move for the Mali international but PSG are now firmly in pole position to land his signature.

Reports earlier this week suggested the French club had made a bid in the region of €7million (£6.2m) and Juventus have now confirmed a fee has been agreed.

Juve are ready to let former Liverpool player Sissoko leave after three years in Turin and he must now decide if he wants to accept their offer.

"I can confirm that we did reach an agreement with PSG director Leonardo," stated Juve official Beppe Marotta.

"We have given the OK, but now it's up to the player to agree terms. We're waiting for the deal to be finalised."

He still has got people fond of his playing style. He was a rock figure at the middle of park for us at his best and was brilliantly stopping opponent's play and giving back possessions :)

PSG flop in opening game, Lyon win away

      REUTERS - Sat, 06 Aug 23:04:00 2011

Big-spending Paris St Germain started the French league campaign with a humbling home defeat as champions Lille and last season's runners-up Olympique Marseille could only draw on Saturday.

PSG, fourth last term before being bought by wealthy Qatari investors and making a host of signings, lost 1-0 to Lorient while Lille drew 1-1 at Nancy and Didier Deschamp's Marseille were held to a 2-2 home draw by Sochaux.

Olympique Lyon were the only winners from France's 'big four' after a 3-1 victory at Nice in Remi Garde's first game in charge.

PSG paraded latest recruit Javier Pastore before kick off at a rainy Parc des Princes and they could have done with him on the field rather than in the stands after a limp display.

Striker Kevin Gameiro joined the ambitious outfit from Lorient in June and had one decent chance before watching his old team mates take the lead after 28 minutes when Julien Quercia tapped in at the far post from a free kick.

Lorient's Kevin Monnet-Paquet earlier missed an open goal from two metres as the modest north west side embarrassed their nouveau-riche opponents, who included other new buys Jeremy Menez, Salvatore Sirigu and Blaise Matuidi.

Lille, surprise double winners last term, have also made several new signings but it was old hand Mathieu Debuchy who opened the scoring at Nancy just after the break following Franck Beria's cross.

Beria turned villain midway through the second half though with an own goal.

Marseille's Lucho Gonzalez, who has spent the close-season waiting for a move away from the club, grabbed a 38th minute opener at the Stade Velodrome before Sochaux hit back twice only for Loic Remy to snatch a draw 16 minutes from time.

"I thought we had done what was needed, above all in the first half in terms of our play and the number of chances," Deschamps told reporters.

Lisandro Lopez, Bafetimbi Gomis and Maxime Gonalons netted for Lyon, who won seven titles in a row between 2002 and 2008 but flattered to deceive under Claude Puel last season and face a fight this term with rivals spending when they have not.

Even promoted side Evian have splashed out by bringing in France striker Sidney Govou and they were sparkling in the first 20 minutes at Stade Brest in their first ever top-flight game before surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2.

Montpellier overcame Auxerre 3-1, Caen beat Valenciennes 1-0 in a battle of last season's strugglers and promoted Corsican side Ajaccio lost 2-0 at home to Toulouse.

Girondins Bordeaux, the 2009 champions who endured a dreadful season last term, start their campaign at home to St Etienne on Sunday when promoted Dijon host Stade Rennes.

      EuroSport

Even money didn't stop the Parisians looking toothless and being humbled at their home ground. Such a shame! More results like this and the Qataris will show the exit door to their coach.

      Here are the results :

      Montpellier 3 - 1 Auxerre
      Bordeaux 1 - 2 Saint-Etienne
      Caen 1 - 0 Valenciennes

About the transferts nothing important. Except the 42M transfert of Pastore to Paris. Lyon is about to make an offer for N'Dinga, a defensive midfielder of Auxerre to replace Toulalan. Lyon want to buy a defensive midfielder and a central back.

      Ligue 1, day 4 :

      Auxerre 4 - 1 Ajaccio
      Evian 0 - 1 Dijon
      Lorient 2 - 1 Nancy
      Nice 0 - 0 Brest
      Valenciennes 1 - 2 Bordeaux
      Lyon 2 - 1 Montpellier
      Rennes 3 - 2 Caen
      Sochaux 2 - 1 Saint-Etienne
      Toulouse 1 - 3 Paris
      Lille 3 - 2 Marseille

About the transferts, Lyon sold Pjanic to Roma for 11M€. 3 new guys at Lyon : Dabo, Koné (defenders) and Fofana (def midfielder), captain of France U20. Those three players for less than 5M€.

Park should have joined Lille for 4M€ but Arsenal entered in the business and made an offer Monaco couldn't refuse (12M€).

(Matches of the next day on the first post.)

A word about the CL draw.

      Group B
      Inter Milan
      CSKA Moskva
      LILLE
      Trabzonspor

      Group D
      Real Madrid
      LYON
      Ajax Amsterdam
      Dinamo Zagreb

      Group F
      Arsenal
      MARSEILLE
      Olympiakos
      Borussia Dortmund

It should be OK for Lyon. Real Madrid again and again... 2nd place must be for Lyon or Ajax.
Lille can qualify too, taking the 2nd place behind Inter.
But it will be difficult for Marseille with Dortmund and Arsenal. I'm glad of this draw because I hate them. Marseille, one more time, welcome in Europa League !

3 clubs at the top position.

If you like football and if you have the possibility to watch Paris - Lyon on next sunday, watch it. It will be a very nice match, for sure. An opposition with the two best teams of Ligue 1 so far.

Aulas admits sales are a must
Ligue 1 giants Lyon looking to cut costs

      By Patrick Haond
      Last Updated: October 25, 2011 4:53pm

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas admits the club's precarious financial situation means they need to sell at least two more players.

The Ligue 1 outfit had been hoping to offload four key men over the summer in an effort to cut costs.

They were able to find buyers for Miralem Pjanic and Jeremy Toulalan, but the high-profile departures stopped there.

As a result, and with the club some €28million (£24.4m) in the red, they are still looking to do business.

Aulas is hoping deals can be done in the New Year, with it imperative that the club start to bring money in.

"We have improved our situation from the end of the 2009/10 season, when we lost €35million (£30.4m)," he told L'Equipe.

"We had to sell four players last summer but sold only two - Pjanic and Toulalan.

"Now we have to accept that because we didn't sell two other players, we will have to do it in the New Year or early in the summer.

"We also have to reduce our wage bill by negotiating reduced contracts and bringing through young players.

"It is difficult to name the players that we could sell. To sell, you have to have interest and offers.

"In the future we might have opportunities to sell players that we don't want to, but we might have to accept the offers."
