Perhaps more impressive is that they had played two days before and beat Tonga 22-0 in that game.  53 goals in two games - not bad going.

Assumed Boutsianis was crap - he only scored a hat-trick.  Thompson and Zdrillic however..

Was this qualifing for the world cup. if it was Fifa must do something about the difference in quality. I remember andorra. England had to play them but did not impress by any means but something has to be done

Going to have to play devil's advocate here and say why? Teams like andorra can only learn from defeats.

Going back to mid to late 80s and teams like Turkey were generally battered by England something like 8-0, nowadays Turkey are even regarded as a decent nation footballwise.

But being honest I think international football has sadly got worse and is not as exciting as club football

If the Ozzy's had played a Subbuteo All Star Select 11 on the same pitch the opposition probably would have given them a better game!
Got to feel sorry for the American Samoans though. Imagine telling your grandchildren you played in a game and the score was 31-0 and you were the home side and you lost! How embarrassing! 
The fact that Austrailia had scored 31 away goals also meant that the 2nd leg was going to be a bit more difficulft than the American Somans had bargained for!
And imagine being the guy who scored 4 hat-tricks plus another goal and you got dropped for the next game... 

It's a funny old game! Even the guy on the scoreboard couldn't keep up with the amount of goals scored! 

Found this on Big Soccer forum when trying to find out the loosing keeper's name...

I think the scoreboard attendant heard the full time whistle
and just assumed it was another goal! 

I thought this was a rugby score at first.
