Moving to England --- Any good advice?
      Sep 15, 2010 11:53:04 pm
      Hello everyone!

Sometime ago I started a thread (got merged due to already existing thread) about the city of Bristol (http://www.lfcreds.com/reds/index.php?topic=8254.0)

Somehow I got the position I was talking about and now I will move from Aarhus, Denmark to Bristol in about 2 weeks. Now that I was thinking about it, it struck me that maybe I dont know as much as I should about life in England. I mean, I have been to London several times, but thats it. I havent been anywhere else in the UK. Then I know some stuff simply by reading on this forum and of course I know all the stereotypes that I guess wont help me very much. I know a bit about English history from the English classes I had in school, but its limited.

So, as Im starting to get a bit nervous and excited I was wondering if any reds on here had experience in moving to England from a different country. Or if any reds on here had moved abroad and that way realised the essential differences between England and other countries.

What to be aware of? How to prepare? What not to do?

As before, Im turning to fellow reds to ask for advice. Because one thing I know about England is where the English brainmass is concentrated ;)

      A)  Where in Bristol?
      B) RyanBabs has just moved to Bristol too.
      C)  Like all cities, it has places to avoid, but it also has some great sights.
      D) Vicky Pollard from Little Britain wasn't based on a Bristolian for no reason.
      E) You're moving, things will go wrong, you will get stressed, so give yourself a break if you need to.
      F)  Some very good pubs all over Bristol,  you shan't go thirsty.

Dont know yet mate, flying over this weekend to search for accommodation. Found the old Bristol thread and earmarked the areas you suggested me to avoid. Thanks btw ;). My plan is to find something where I wont have to sign up for more than 3 month. Then I will have some time to get to know the city and find out whats good and not. Its not really work, its post graduate studies at the university so I was hoping to find something pretty near the university (of Bristol) since I am to confused to plan my life according to public transport (and for the first month I probably wont dare to bike in the opposite side of the road). Im not getting a hell lot of money from it, so Im looking for a room, not my own flat or anything. Im hearing very different opinions on st. Paul and Montpellier btw. Do you know anything about those areas?

      F)  Some very good pubs all over Bristol,  you shan't go thirsty.

And I already feel much better ;)

Good luck with your move to Bristol, TotheMax, I'm afraid I don't really know anything about  Bristol, so I can't be much help to you, but I hope your move goes well.

To quote from the movie snatch "dont go to England"   ;D

Other than that you'll need 1 x season long train pass from Bristol to Liverpool
1 x as many tickets to watch the reds
                                           1 x umbrella
1 x thermal water proof underpants
1 x thermal water proof socks
1 x thermal water proof clothing
1 x waiting list for new liver
Apart from that you should be good  :D

My advice would be not to move here!

After spending a week in Italy, it made me realise how shitty this country is!

the problem living in England is there are just too many people here you cant breath. The roads are full the transport system stinks everything is so expensive. It rains from October through till May then from June till September. ;D
