So are we Zonal or Man to Man now?
      Sep 24, 2010 06:29:07 am
Simple question as I am confused as F**k as to what system we use when it comes to defending in the box.

Rafa was crucified for using Zonal so what is Roy using now because if that is what he calls man to man then it is pretty pathetic.

In every single match so far we have been suspicious and shaky defending set pieces??

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Hodgson

His early coaching career was closely linked to that of his friend Bob Houghton; they worked together at Maidstone, Stranraer and Bristol City, and they both worked in Swedish football at the same time. The pair are credited with transforming Swedish football, bringing in zonal marking for the first time.[8]

Now having recently learnt and been humbled that you shouldn't believe all that you read on Wikipedia (especially league positions ;D) I can only say that I found this gem in the last few days.

Quite frankly I dont know what he is playing.

I did say that in an early game under Hodgson I did find myself watching the TV again at corners and set pieces and noticed Pepe was off the valium.
I actually (TRUE!) saw at least one defender on a post at a corner.
So I would like to be enlightened at to what he is doing.

It seems so would the players.

      Maidstone, Stranraer and Bristol?
Sounds like places you would stand as a trainspotter.

PPS. How can you be in Stranraer and Sweden at the same time?

By the way Zonal or man2man,more like Zombie marking!!!!!!
Give it up Roy . Do you what we're at?

Against Man U, Konchesky is on the post, but to let in a goal.. From the Birmingham and Man U match, I will say, Zonal marking is impossible, esp. with Konchesky's poor positioning and defending.. letting in too many crosses..

To answer your question, i haven't got the slightest of idea.

Sometimes it seems it's zonal, sometimes man to man, sometimes it's just a bunch of blokes in red standing in the box.

Looking at how we have lined up for corners I'd say man to man.

In answer to your question, I don't think our defenders know, so what hope have we got ?

It's man to man. We could see vs manure: carra vs vidic, torres vs berbatov

It's a mixture of the 2, the same as most teams use - some players mark man to man, others mark zones.

      Felt exactly the same.

What ever it is if it isnt fixed asap will cost us dearly.

I think for the past few seasons, we have been imploying the "headless chicken" style of marking!!

What? Headless chicken/clueless marking is the nearest to any marking we
      are trying at best!!!!!!
Take that zonal, put it in a bag & kick it the F**k into touch somewhere deep & wet

I know the players are confused. they get caught-up in a zonal  and man-to-man defence style.
