In defense of Roy you lot where all requesting that we play a team full of juniors and he did that and we lost.

And now he is in the wrong because he didn't play enough "big name" players?

We should never have lost to Northampton though , its almost embarrassing to be a Liverpool supporter atm.

Our juniors are still meant to be better than that lot. And then, you should always have a back up of the likes of Torres on the bench to come on late if we need some class to finish it off.

Roy fu**ed up his whole plan tonight. Again.

I just feel so helpless as a fan...Roy should lay into them and he should change his way of tactics....but I know he won't.

No, he'll just sit there with his head in his hands. That's quality leadership

The only thing I can say about tonight is Roy and most of our players are lucky that our main focus is on the ownership.

We are entering what could be the biggest month in Liverpool's history, not in a good way, and the frankly most of my emotional focus is going on the ownership situation at the moment... I wouldn't say I don't care about the results but I'm finding it hard to think about anything else other than what will happen with the ownership of the club.

I must admit I wasn't as pumped for the Manure game as I usually am, nor any game this season.

I think that our playing staff and managerial staff are currently lucky that there is such a massive issue which is taking the focus off of just how sh*te they have been since May 2009.

Oh and some of our collective criticism of Hodgson is possibly a tad excessive but Roy has been in since July, I'm not expecting miracles but this start to the season is frankly something that a 'safe hands' manager shouldn't be overseeing. Maybe he'll turn it around, I hope he does. But I was quite positive about him, albeit I thought Pellegrini would have shown ambition whereas Hodgson showed caution, now I'm struggling to remain positive.

I'd like to think I'm not a knee jerk fan but there has been little to none improvement on last season's peformances and arguably even worse in terms of results.

Even if we had money and new owners and sh*t i can't see our team playing any better.

The tactics for me are all wrong, we have talented players lets use them and play some football.

If you check the pre match thread you will see that i was hoping Roy would play his strongest team,I thought this match would of been ideal for our best team to get some match practice together in what should of been a walkover and get some confidence back and belief in themselves.

Hodgson: "There is nothing to say except I thought the effort was there, we didn't lose because we were casual in our approach or lethargic in our play, we lost because unfortunately we defended poorly on a couple of occasions and didn't use the ball well enough with the possession we had."

      Is he serious?

      F***ing horrendous.

Neither team nor manager can be defended against a result like that.

The only tiny positive is that maybe some of the fans burying their heads in the sand over the ownership issue will wake up and realise the sh*t we are in.

I've never spoken ill of Roy because its ugly when us supporters in-fight and bag our people, but I really don't think it's good to hear your manager say "i'm not in the mood to talk about positives" and continue to bag the personnel which he "thought was good enough to win the match", maybe you have to look at the managing side of it too?

He should drop all 11 players after that performance...

Sorry, he did that after Sunday. And these 11 didnt perform either..

I like how Roy is honest and upfront with his explanations and his dealing with the media - however in 6 domestic games now, he has one once, drawn twice and lost 3 times - one of which was to a team three divisions below us.

Surely  this adds to the argument that we should field our strongest team whoever the opposition is.I think our manager has to be held accountable for this loss,a loss we can ill afford.

This is the best quote in 39 pages. We had to go for this competition, so many of you had said Europe - this was our way in, this way the way of getting a good win, building confidence, building a platform - making the sunderland game not do or die. I am sick of our managers trying to be like Fergie, Arsene and thinking our squad can compete it cannot. How would Stevie and the lads feel watching this sh*te?

Liverpool FC manager Roy Hodgson apologises after Carling Cup debacle

Sep 23 2010 by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

DEJECTED Roy Hodgson issued an apology to Liverpool supporters after they witnessed a Carling Cup humiliation last night.

The Anfield outfit suffered one of the most embarrassing defeats in their history when they were defeated in a penalty shoot-out at home by npower League Two strugglers Northampton Town.

David Ngog and Nathan Eccleston both missed from the spot to give Abdul Osman the chance to fire home in front of the Kop and give the visitors a famous third-round triumph.

A much-changed Liverpool had only forced penalties with an Ngog equaliser four minutes from the end of extra time after goals by Northampton duo Billy McKay and 18-year-old Michael Jacobs wiped out Milan Jovanovic’s early opener.

And a hugely disappointed Hodgson could only say sorry to the home fans who turned up on a dismal, dreary night that will go down in the annals of Anfield infamy.

“It’s a major setback for the club as a whole,” said the Liverpool manager. “The Carling Cup is a competition we are capable of doing well in.

“It’s one of many setbacks we are facing at the moment. It’s a tough period to work and live through, but we will work and live through it and survive and get better. I’ll learn an awful lot tonight about this defeat about an awful lot of people.

“I can only congratulate Northampton and apologise to the fans who came here tonight. They expected us to win and so did we.”

"Its one of many setbacks we are facing at the moment."

Dont hide behind the ownership issue. You've said already thats nothing to do with you.
Youve said that your job is the football.
Other people have hid under that radar."

"Ill learn an awful lot tonight about this defeat        about an awful lot of people."

Surely no one could argue that that team should have breezed past Northampton. so the question has to be why are we so awful no matter who plays at the moment. There is a cancer in the club at the moment and until its cut out we cant make sense of anything. Please God let the 6th of October bring the first positive news for 3 years.
