I was there at your funeral Bill, and you will always hold a special place in my heart.

I had no idea he had been knighted. Made my day. Is there a book or website that has his quotes/quips? I recall when I was 10 or so, (40 plus plus years ago) he allegedely told his barber : Everton" when asked if he wanted anything of the top. Is there a cd/video I can purchase of his "highlights" ,similar to some LFC VCRs' I have?

Just finished reading his autobiography that only got re released for sale @ the club shop recently and is amazing how true his words are even now, 20 odd years later. Almost as if times haven't changed.
A must read for any true liverpool fan

Bill Shankly,how I wish for the days when you first arrived at Anfield and led this club to so much glory,who could forget winning the second division,the first division in 1964 and 1966 and the euphoria you created when you brought the F.A.Cup home to Anfield for the first time in 1965 then slaughtered Inter Milan a few days later.To anyone who never saw the REDS play prior to the 1990s you do not know what you missed.In Shanks day L.F.C. was a club not a franchise like it is today.

Did anybody see the documentary on Bill Shankly tonight?

It was absolutely superb and covered his whole time at Liverpool from when he first arrived in 1959 to when he died in 1981, there were some moments I'd not seen before and is well worth watching.

It's called Shankly - nature's fire, on for an hour and a half and done by BBC Scotland, it was on tonight on channel 162 on Virgin .

A must for any Liverpool fan, brought back some fabulous memories, what a man he was.

He was a truly great man & manager, who put the club and fans first.

My Dad told me a funny story about Shanks the other day.
During his time as manager he would often drive in his own car to pick up new signings from their hometown and this was the case when he signed Emlyn Hughes.
He drove to Blackpool to pick him up and bring him to Anfield for his signing in 67
As he drove down the motorway back to Liverpool his car was allegedly stopped by the plods for speeding..
When he pulled over and got out he said to the officer..
"See that man there (pointing to Emlyn sat in the passenger seat), that's the future captain of England. The sooner I get him to Liverpool for his medical the sooner England will be a better team"
The copper let him go, so I'm told..

  That's brilliant, so hope that actually happened, Shanks was unique his SoH didn't always shine through but i know Scouse & Scots share the same humour,  one story I know to be true is when Tommy Smith had a knee injury,  Shanks was desperate for Tommy to play, so he went to see him in the physio room . How ye doin Son says Shanks,  aw it's my knee boss says Tommy, dunno if I can play, Shanks far from happy tells Tommy in no uncertain terms, ' it's not your knee, it's Liverpool's knee' your playing,

One of the best old school managers I had the witness of watching him strut his stuff on the touch line. He knew how to get his players motivated and didn't take any sh*te.

RIP Shanks.

Irrepressible, incomparable, unreplacable, unflappable.

I was lucky enough to attend his funeral, in some of the programmes before matches there was a special voucher which meant you could go to his funeral, I felt extremely privileged to be at the anglican cathedral that day, I still have the order of service to this day.

Would be turning in his grave over the Big Project bullshit.
