Fenway plans for a new/redeveloped Anfield stadium?
      Oct 06, 2010 11:52:02 am
The new owners are talking about not building a new stadium and considering redeveloping Anfield. No commitment on a new stadium ???

May I point out that this is on SSN, they've been SO far off the mark as far as a takeover is concerned so far I'd be suprised if that c**t Swanson and his mates have any credibility on this claim. If other more decent forms of media pick-up on this we shall see but it could just be Sky making up stories (sorry to spoil the illusion ;) ) in order to make sure they are still 'first for news' on a subject the frankly know f**k all about.

I'd be suprised if the new owners weren't giving full guarntees about the new stadium given its obvious importance.

Ya mate but planning permission has been rejected on numerous times to redevelop Anfield. To me the new americans are looking at cheap options already and if they are unable to do this I think we will see another massive debt for a stadium.

But how can you tell they are looking to do this?

I'm all for caution as far as this takeover goes but do you really think, that given the hassle they will have to go through to seal this takeover, the other three on the board would let owners be flippy floppy about the stadium?

To be honest I would prefer we redevelop Anfield.

Just can not imagine us playing at "home" anywhere else but Anfield.

Because I've seen it all before, the same promises all from owners from Americans who own American clubs also. I'll see it when I believe it.

We didn't revelop Anfield in the past because we couldn't get planning in the past and we are unlikely to get it now either.

Corbally, they redeveloped the Fenway Park because the fans didn't want to leave.

I loosely follow baseball and I'm a Red Sox fan because, and I'm not just saying this, they are the closest team to Liverpool anywhere in baseball.

They respected the wishes of the Red Sox fans and brought them their first World Series in 86 years! I know we all have to be cautious here but at least wait till there is something more concrete than SSN before you panic.

"c) Is there a commitment from them to progress the new stadium project?

Yes, there's definitely a commitment to invest in a stadium and we will finish up with a 60,000+ seater stadium. Where they haven't finalised their view is whether that should be the new stadium or whether there are still opportunities to build at Anfield itself. They have done both. The people involved have built the new stadium at Baltimore Orioles, for example, and at Fenway Park they looked at the two options and decided that actually redevelopment with all of the tradition was better than a new stadium. So they have done both, they are committed to looking at both very professionally and seeing which is the best option, but there will be stadium development."

      Okay I take it back

I know that but all the history is on that particular grass patch.
