My post was nothing about the economic position at the club, it was about the view that Konate is Lovrenâs replacement.
But we donât know it was an economic strategy do we? Itâs an assumption.
The one thing that isnât an assumption is that regardless of the reason why another CB wasnât signed last summer, it turned out to be the wrong decision.
Itâs good to see that even after having a year off the forum, this topic is literally still going around in the same circles with the same people making the same repeated arguments.
At one point i think we had all 4 top CB options injured last season (Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez and Fabinho) so regardless of who replaced Lovren and when, no one can absorb that many injuries in one position.
Last year we entered the season with 5 CBs (Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez, Philipps, Rhys) + Fabinho and everyone was melting down over the lack of CB options, yet Phillips and Rhys played down the final month of the season when we had one of our best run of games and finished 3rd.
With Rhys and Davies out on loan, this year we're going into the season with 5 CBs (Van Dijk, Gomez, Matip, Konate, Phillips) + Fabinho, so same as last season but no one is melting down over that this time around because the narrative has moved on to something else.
Our problem's in defense last year wasn't because of quality but because of volume but you can never plan for losing 4 players at one position at the same time.
Regarding Fabinho, as you mentioned, Klopp did reference him playing CB, and Fabinho himself was quoted in some article that he's been doing some training at CB since joining the club.
