Skysports.com understands Liverpool are poised to sign Gillingham starlet Ashley Miller.

Miller has been playing in Gillingham's junior ranks since 2003 and he is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in England.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal,Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton have all been linked with the 16-year-old, but it appears Liverpool are set to win the race for his signature.

Liverpool's scouting team have moved quickly to arrange a deal to take the striker to Anfield with the club keen to tie up the move to ward off other suitors.

Miller is highly rated at Priestfield and the schoolboy has been called up to the first-team squad for Saturday's game at Northampton.
Miller is the latest young talent to come through the ranks at Gillingham with the club having sold 15-year-old Luke Freeman to Arsenal for a six-figure fee in 2008.

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler caused a bit of a media stir in his press conference this morning when he announced that youth team striker Ashley Miller, who only turned 16 last month, would be in his travelling squad for the game at Northampton Town on Saturday.

According to both Hessenthaler and Head of Youth Darren Hare, the youngster has impressed ever since his arrival at the club as a seven year-old.

Just last weekend, Miller scored two quality goals in the under-18's comprehensive 4-0 victory over Aldershot at Beechings Cross - a game watched by Hess (and me luckily enough). His first was a firm header, the second a thumping volley from the edge of the area after mesmerising his marker with some neat ball skills.

He is in the Gills team that faces Cambridge United in the F.A Youth Cup First Round here at Priestfield this evening - kick-off is 7pm.

Talking this morning, Hessenthaler said "We may bring in Ashley Miller who plays up top for the Youth Team. He's only just turned 16 but he is starting to set the place a light a little bit at the moment. I saw him play last weekend and he will play in the FA Youth Cup tonight and we may introduce him into the senior side this weekend.

Looks like a decent prospect! If we get him im sure getting some valuable tutoring off Torres could make him a world beater.  ;)

Good to see the club getting and scouting the best talent around. THANK YOU RAFA for changing our youth philosophy.

What happened to our Academy? In the 90's, it produced some of the best talent the club has seen (Gerrard, Carragher, Fowler, McManaman, Owen, etc.), but now, I must say it looks bearish to say the least.

It's vastly improved over the past 2 seasons, though.
