I'm just saying it's pretty much a safe bet given how much better Liverpool are in comparison to Aston Villa.

That still wouldn't mean Downing is better, as even in the best season of his career and playing for a team that finished 7 places higher than Wigan, he didn't have a better return than N'Zogbia

So you're saying he will have better stats because he's playing for Liverpool and N'Zogbia will have worse stats because he's at Villa? If N'Zogbia was as good as people make out and Downing as bad then that wouldn't be the case would it?

Yes, that's what I'm saying. Not a certainty, but most definitely more likely.

      Who says Downing is bad?

      For what it's worth - over the last five P.L. season's - Downing 20 goals & 27 assists - N'Zogbia 19 goals & 23 assists.

To give the full picture... using only PL stats, N'Zogbia has started 131 games for both Newcastle and Wigan, was used 24 times as a sub, scored 19 goals and made 20 assists in the last 5 seasons. Downing has started 170 games for Boro and Villa, was used 2 times as a sub, scored 20 goals and made 23 assists.

N'Zogbia's average is better, he's also been used as a left back during his early career at Newcastle, he's 2 years younger, cheaper and also home grown.

he's consistent and he's getting better

i'd still be aiming for a better defensive midfielder as a side who wants a top 4 finish

Gosh, when you give the full picture, it really does look like Kenny/Comolli/Clarke picked the wrong player.  :o

You'd think (if the story about Comolli being heavily into stats is accurate) that they wouldn't have fu**ed up so readily. I mean, how could 'they' have got it so wrong?

Could it be, maybe, (and I'm just surmising here), that either; 'they' aren't just as stats based, as we've been lead to believe or Comolli is as lazy, as me, in researching stats or... or... maybe Kenny & Clarke got the man 'they' wanted? Ah well... spilled milk and all that.

      N'zogbia ain't a Redman so F**k HIM! Eh? ;D

Oh yeah. There were no opinions in my last post though, only facts. People can make of them anything they want.

I've stated my opinions before ;D don't want to be so repetitive.

Oops... I've posted my opinion of him twice on this thread; #1 & # 270 and it hasn't changed.  Not too bad in 19 pages and 560+ post tho' I suppose.  :sadlook:

Didn't mean to say you were repetitive, but I posted my opinion on him earlier in this very same page, that's why I didn't want to say them again. My previous posts were regarding stats only, as they came up for some reason.

I never took it that you had Diego.

My previous posts were regarding stats only, as they came up for some reason.

Oops again... it was me who introduced them. For no other reason as by way of a ('for what it's worth') comparator - I thought the stats were very similar for both players. I took no side.

Your subsequent post proved more informative and comprehensive and certainly showed that the stats favoured N'Zogbia - opinion or not. Ergo; one can only conclude (based on your comprehensive appraisal) that this could not have been a stats driven choice that's not an opinion by the way - just logic based fact.  ;)

Pretty safe to say this train has passed. An absolute steal for the reported price of 9,5 M, especially in those market conditions. I am dissapointed that we haven't tried to sign him with our lack of wingers. I really hope Kenny doesn't think we can rely solely on Downing for the whole season.

He would be a very good signing if he replaces either Cole or Maxi. This would be an upgrade to the squad. He can score goals and do some assists and younger than any of our wingers.
