Jay Bothroyd 'attracting interest from Liverpool and Fulham'

Fulham and Liverpool are among the Premier League clubs maintaining a close interest in Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd.

Cardiff City's Jay Bothroyd is on the transfer radars of a number of teams

The former Arsenal youngster (pictured) has netted four times in his last three matches to take his tally to 12 for the season.

That includes two in Monday’s 4-0 win at Leeds which put the Bluebirds joint top of the Championship.

And his excellent form has inevitably alerted a number of top-flight clubs, with striker-light Liverpool currently thought to be leading the chase.

However, manager Roy Hodgson - who is said to be preparing a January bid - could face competition from his old club Fulham, who are also keen to add Bothroyd as another option up front.

The Cottagers are still without Andy Johnson, who has been out for around nine months and is only now returning to training, as well as England man Bobby Zamora, who broke his leg earlier this month.
Premier League newcomers Newcastle are also thought to be keeping tabs on the Bluebirds star.

Not a bad striker for the short term. He's good in the air, has pace and knows where the goal is. Exactly what we're looking for in a front man.

He's a strong skillfull striker who leads the line very well but at 28 he's too old.

The ability has always been there but always question marks over his temperament, under Dave Jones he's got his head down and worked hard. If he was 22\23 maybe but no...not for me.

Yep got to agree to old, we don't need stop gaps, we need permanent ones.

Yes but with all this talk of buying young, talented players. And Roy's comments about not shopping the bargain basement it seems either completely made up or massively disappointing to be linked with a 28 year old Cardiff player.

While Roy's in charge, I can see him trying to make acquisitions like this.

Haha, possibly the worst player have ever been linked with. Yes, he's scored a few this season, but he is clearly not good enough.

      Years Team Apps† (Gls)†
      2000–2003 Coventry City 72 (14)
      2003–2005 Perugia 28 (5)
      2004–2005 → Blackburn Rovers (loan) 11 (1)
      2005–2006 Charlton Athletic 18 (2)
      2006–2008 Wolverhampton Wanderers 55 (12)
      2008 → Stoke City (loan) 4 (0)
      2008– Cardiff City 91 (33)

      279 career appearances - 67 career goals.

Averaging a goal in just over every 4 games. No thanks.

It doesn't matter if he is 28 years of age and play for Cardiff, if he is good enough than why not. However, he is def not good enough.

You know what, I like the guy, and think he deserves a chance in the premiership again.

But not with Liverpool, not worth the risk.

Many strikers are brilliant in the championship, but fail to make the step up. Ebanks-Blake, Marlon King, Jason Roberts, Jason Scotland etc etc...

But he is definitely on top form for them at the moment.
