Having seen him play several times, I have to say he is a really good player (I'd say one of the two or three best of french ligue 1 for this position) who has the level to probably succeed in england.

Now he would be one more 29 year old player only going to decline, after (hopefully) one or two good seasons.

We're supposedly close to a deal.

Why the F**k are we trying to buy a right back?

Rod Fanni was linked with the bitters about 5 years ago, but they thought better of it.

Tells you all you need to know.

you don't want to mess to much with Fanni!

Yep, I'm not one to check out these supposed player threads we are looking at unless there are hundreds of posts attached to it.

Seeing the name of the player and the person who started the topic, got me interested though.  :D
i've never heard of Fanni.  all smells a bit fishy to me.

apparantly, before they failed in their bid to buy the club DIC wanted Fanni.

sorry, that really is the last one!

anyway, bit dubious about this. 29 and we have Johnson and Kelly.  Not really seeing the big picture here. What about a left back.

Maybe not.... With Carra and Agger out injured, and Wilson looking far from assured (but he still has plenty of time to get better) we are lacking in the CB dept.  Kelly is an option for that position, and will certainly offer us more pace than either Sotis or Skrtel.  Roy may be thinking that Fanni is a player who could add depth to the RB position which would allow Kelly to play in a more central role.

In short, Roy may be looking at Kelly as the next Carra.... a utility player who can be used anywhere across the back line.

      Could be right there mate.

Who knows, but i think Glen would be second choice as Woy would like to play with Fanni first.

I just hope he doesn't play as a striker. The thought of Gerrard playing his balls into Fanni is fu**ed.

I really don't think Roy is thinking about selling Johno.... If he was, we'd be seeing Kelly feature more now even though Glen is fit again.  I think if we buy Fanni it is because Roy is thinking about possibly selling Agger and using Kelly as a utility player who can cover at CB.  Let's not forget that Martin started off as a CB.  If this was to happen we'd have:

      RB:  Johno and Fanni
      LB:  Aurelio and Konch
CB:  Sotis, Skrtel, Carra, and Wilson
      * Kelly can play anywhere along the back line

I love Agger and think he's one of the best in the world when fit, but he rarely seems to be fit.  I think we receive offers in the 12 million range we should seriously consider them because the worst thing that could happen is if we hold onto him for years and he pulls a Johnny Woodgate/Owen Hargreaves.... We could also bring Ayala back from his loan to add depth at CB.
