      Johan Elmander
      Nov 26, 2010 08:37:23 am
Johan Elmander has stalled on signing a new contract with Bolton - and sparked a scramble for his signature.

The super Swede, who tops the Premier League scoring charts, was offered a new one-year deal at the Reebok but is not willing to commit yet and may play out the season and become a free agent.

However Elmander, a surprise star of Owen Coyle’s side this season, could now be sold in January - with growing interest in him at home and abroad.

Liverpool, Newcastle and Stoke have been taking an interest in Elmander’s revival and there could be an auction for the 29-year-old in the coming weeks.

Bolton chief Coyle is relaxed about the stalemate, but the club may cash in if they get an offer of around £3.5 million for the in-form marksman who may be allowed to leave in January.

Coyle thinks he has enough in his squad to cover for Elmander’s departure if it happens in the New Year and he also has moves in the pipeline for possible replacements.

Elmander was Bolton’s record buy and is on a massive salary.

The Reebok outfit were prepared to keep him for a further season on those terms, but his agent left without an agreement after a visit to see chairman Phil Gartside.

He is definittely on form atm, but I would take a punt if he did wind down his contract with Bolton, been unplayable at times this season.

Not so sure about this.  It was speculated somewhere (can't remember where) that he has upped his game as he wants a new contract/club, having been 'mediocre' in previous seasons.  And he's 29.  Big fish in little pond maybe?

Doesn't fit NESV's profile - too old and on massive wages.

      No thanks.

The previous years he's been awful, this is the only bit of form he's had at Bolton.

And, he's 29- doesn't fit with NESVs new policy for transfers.

Too old, we definitely need young blood that will enable us to challenge the top teams in 2,3 years time. Not a 29/30 year old who won't add anything long term to us.

What I like about him is he is strong.

However, it's only this season that he has been playing well after arriving at Bolton but don't fancy signing him because of his age and stuff.

      No.

Been woeful since signing from Toulouse where he had built a name for himself. He went something like 12 games without a goal last season.

At 29 it's another strike to his name. Don't want anymore stop gaps.

Bolton boss Owen Coyle would let Johan Elmander join Liverpool, provided the Merseyside outfit match the Trotters' valuation.

The Swedish international is due to fall out of contract in the summer but despite Bolton's best efforts to get him tied down to a new one, there is every chance he will be on the move as early as January.

There has been interest from Stoke City and Newcastle United, but Coyle says the striker would only be tempted by a move to Liverpool and would not blame him if he wanted to leave for Anfield.

"Ultimately, if and when - it's hypothetical at the moment - something came out and he said, 'I'd like to try that', I wouldn't have any problem with it," Coyle revealed.

"He has been fantastic for me. The relationship I have got with him is great, it is very upfront and we are quite open with each other. If in January a top club, a Champions League club, came in for Johan, it would only be natural that he would turn his head at that.

"It's never going to faze me, I'm not going to get upset about it. Ultimately, Johan has to do the right thing for him and his family

Would be a sh*te signing, I thought we were targetting young talented players, not 29 years old that have had a good two months.

Going to say this. Crucify me if you'd like.

Carlton Cole is better then this lad. That's F***ing saying something.

Neither Cole nor Elmander are good enough. End of.

Is he F**k, I would take Elmander over Cole any day. Elmander has over 100 goals,  Cole has just 'racked up' 50. Thankfully though we don't have to choose either.

Not the worst player in the world. Maybe worth a go on a free transfer, so long as he's only a squad player. Obviously should not come at the expense of the (much better) players that we need.

If Voronin was (supposedly) good enough to sign on a free then why not this lad?

Elmanders goal scoring rate is barely better then Coles. 16 goals in 71 as compared to Cole's 27 goals in 120.

Both are complete sh*t and if we end up with one of them I'll be upset.
