Liverpool prepare January bid for another French target

French reports claim the centre back is high on Liverpool's winter wish-list

Liverpool are being linked with a January transfer move for French international Adil Rami.

The Lille defender is the latest Ligue 1 player to be targeted by the Anfield club, with Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson thought to have his eye on a string of Les Dogues players.

Rami, Gervinho and Eden Hazard are all thought to be potential transfer targets for the Merseyside outfit.

A towering defender of Moroccan decent, Rami joined Lille from Frejus in 2007, and has gone on to be an integral part of the team at the Stadium Lille-Metropole.

Experience at European club and international level makes the player a viable target, and the Liverpool boss was thought to have been impressed by Rami's performance in the recent 2-1 victory for France over England at Wembley.

The Reds boss is thought to have targeted 'five or six' players for the opening month of 2011, and new owners NESV look set to offer the Liverpool chief a transfer war chest in the region of £35 million.

Whilst a striking foil for Fernando Torres is thought to be the priority, the former Fulham boss is keen to strengthen in the core areas. Central defence is one of those positions, leading to speculation that Liverpool will make a move for Rami at the first opportunity.

Just because you're too ignorant to know up and coming footballers, don't think the rest of us are.  I think he'd be a good signing, very similar to Skrtel but better in the air and faster.  Skrtel's probably better at waist and ground height though.  If the price is right, could be a good move IMO.

He is just the regular central defender of french team since Laurent Blanc took control (pairing with Mexes).
Prefered to players like Gallas, Sakho, Koscielny, Abidal (who played cb under Domenech and now is back at left back) etc..... so he shouldn't be bad.

Clearly f**king clueless. The lad is up and coming and features regularly in the French team.

That being said, we are full of CB's at the moment and I include Agger in that. Danny Wilson and Danny Ayala both are very bright young talents. And Martin Kelly is meant to be a CB.

No surprise all these French talents being linked when Comolli comes to town.

Of course we will be linked with exciting young french players and now we have a proven talent spotter in Comolli and his best scout - Steve Hitchin.

With past successes with Spurs and other top clubs we should be pleased we are following up on John Henry's challenge to identify cheap young players and develope into world class talents.

Personally I would welcome some of these names linked with us - give them time and they will help define the future. I agree we need to find some experience now  especially as Torres needs support but I have every confidence we will see quality investment come the January window.
