Yeah I think we'll sign him. Is he good? Would rather have n'zogbia.

I have no idea, but he's costing us 1.5m which is much cheaper then N'zogbia and i'd imagine he doesn't have such a bad attitude as him. Still i can't see much wrong with this. Young, cheap and attacking and plays left back and left wing.

If he only cost 1.5 million hopefully that means we get spend more on a strike partner for torres. Not just look for another cheap option. He's looks decent, not world class. He looks a lot like malouda before he moved to Chelsea.

10 goals last season. Good return for a winger. Sign him up, he's young and cheap enough.

Officially, #LFC making no comment on Sylvain Marveaux. Unofficially, I saw him with my own face at Anfield. Attended as guest of club. (Rory Smith Twitter)

A french scout who I really admire, James Eastham:

Some reports kicking around that Marveaux would cost LFC £1.5m. If that's true, he'd be a fantastic bit of business.

Calls him a top prospect as well.

Someone just said Huth was also in the box and there's more stuff going to happen, it's from RAWK so i'll take it with a pinch of salt, but still at least we're getting players in.

Rory Smith I think rubbished those claims. Saw Marveaux, but not Huth.

Everything I've gathered about Marveaux it seems like a very good buy for LFC.

For 1.5 million I think this is a good piece of business.

We'll see how he turns out, but this is Comolli's first real impact on the club I'd guess.

Before Malouda joined Chelsea he was a bad-ass for Lyon, and was already a regular starter for the French national team.

Marveaux has had one good season.  He looks like he has some quality, but does anyone really think he will be a much better option than what we already have?

In my humble opinion, we need to aim higher.... although 1.5 mil aint much of a risk  :f_tongueincheek:

      Found this stat online:

      Quote
37% - Sylvain Marveaux has started 37% of Rennes' league games since the 2006/07 season (64 out of 171).
      http://twitter.com/#!/OptaJean

An injury-prone player coming to the club that makes players injury-prone (see: Torres)... I don't care how good he is, he can't help us if he is too hurt to play.

I know that sounds cynical, but after what we saw from our team yesterday, can anyone blame me?

Joe Cole's wages made us unable to keep Aquilani & Insua, and he was a free transfer. Define risk for me that makes this any different.

He had one major injury from what I've heard. It happens.

I'm going to listen to all the respected scouts I know and say this was a great piece of business.

People comparing him to Joe Cole, Aquilani and other crocks. We have to remember's he's going to cost us 1.5m, probably 3m tops. He's young and can play left wing, something we desperately need. It's a risk worth taking and we won't get N'zogbia in January unless for 16m, which is stupid considering we could probably buy him in summer for 9m.

What are you talking about wages for?  I never mentioned wages....

The fee of 1.5 mil is not a very big risk.  And he will probably be on fairly cheap wages for at least the first few years.  If he proves he is worth more he will get an improved deal somewhere down the road.

I just think we need to aim higher if we are actually trying to move back into trophy contention.  I somehow doubt this kid is much of an improvement on Jova, Maxi, Cole, Babel, etc.  Look at Jovanovic..... full Serbian international and was decent in the WC, but he can't get a game under Roy.  Unfortunately, I think that the talents of many of our creative/attacking players are stifled by Roy's anti-football tactics  :-\

Jovanovic was never a left sided midfielder, Maxi same, and arguably Cole the same.

Marveaux is an out and out left sided player. He has great self-believe, he's still young, will improve, an awesome left boot, can put a cross in and is a free kick taker. Even chips in with some goals because of his great left peg.

We were never going to go out and buy the Hazard's, Dzeko's and Turan's in January. The business is never right. This deal still leaves room to get more help, but this is a fine piece of business.

I'm fully behind this and Sylvain. I hope it's official shortly.

Yeah I expect a couple of decent players in January. Then in the summer with a new manager we can target a couple world class players. I am fully behind this buy. I hope we can put more money for a striker when we got sylvain for cheap.
