He may be unproven at a big club but I just think you can't ignore his goal scoring record.

He scored 31 in 68 games for Charlton in two seasons, the second of which they were relegated.

He scored 31 in 50 for Sunderland who are a mid table side at best.

Fair enough he scored 18 in 60 for Spurs but he was a sub for a good part of his time there and in his second season was there top scorer.

I rate the lad and think it's hard to ignore a Premier League record such as his even if he has some flaws in his game.

I still think £20M is a bit high but if this was a striker from Italy, Spain or Germany with his record I would bet the price tag would be just as high. Edin Dzecko has a similar ratio, 109 in 233 games, and he is being rumored to cost around £30M.

I remember his last season with Charlton most of his goals were penalties something crazy like 9 or something

I think it was something like that Corbally but just to put that season into perspective he got 13 goals and Charlton were relegated while we finished 3rd and our top scorer was Dirk with only 12.

Beat me on both times, srslfc.

If he wasn't English and scoring the goals he is in another league i bet his price would be the same and his reputation would be higher.

I'd take him to be honest. He's been scoring a bagful of goals in recent seasons.

So you think if he wasn't English he would be worth £20 million even though he has done F**k all at European or international level, not a F***ing chance, English players are overpriced and overrated

Sounds like Dzeko. Done F**k all on the international stage and in Europe. I bet he'll go for 25m+ though.

His goal scoring record would win it for me.

He's 26- same age as Nando so age is no problem.
His problem is he's not played in Europe and has something like 7 England caps.

£20m would be too much something more like £12-15m would be fair but I know that wouldn't happen.

Him being English defo ups the price a few million. However, I think if he does well here, he will get in the England team, and his price will only get higher. If he fails, we could easily sell on for a 5M£ loss, ala Keane.

This has Robbie Keane written all over it for me.

I would pass if anything over 10 million was being asked for.

£20m+ for a classic poacher?  No thank you.  Poachers only work well at clubs with a small-time mentality and will soon be fazed out of the game at higher levels in lieu of more two dimensional types of strikers.  Guy is world class for 'the best of the rest' and a bench player for bigger clubs.  His goal scoring record is impressive but the environment in which he scored them suits him to a 'T', he'll struggle to adapt to a more technical team when more is expected off him.

Handed in a transfer request today after £18m bid from Villa.

I'd take him here but for no where near that money. £10m - £12m max.

18 million is to much but he's proven in the premiership and that's th going rate. Suarez is a good player but it's always a bit of a gamble if he can adapt.

18M, are you having a laugh?  8M more like would be about right.  I think Suarez has more dimensions to him, Bent reminds me of Owen in many ways - he has pace, and will score with his pace, but not so much a creator.

They got £29m for Milner that's where the moneys from.

Of course I'd rather Suarez but pity its come to the fact we cant have both.
