      Clint Dempsey (Fulham)
      Dec 06, 2010 05:02:40 pm
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson will attempt to lure Fulham attacker Clint Dempsey in January.

The former Craven Cottage boss has earmarked a move for the American and the poor start to the season under new boss Mark Hughes may lead the 27-year-old to consider a move away from the west London side.

Hodgson is reportedly looking to bring in more attacking options and the adaptable Dempsey could well be a very useful addition to his Anfield squad. The £10m rated Texan can play in a number of positions in the final third and now in his fifth season in the Premier League he has shown what he is capable of and arguably has outgrown the Cottagers.

Fulham currently lie in 17th spot in the table having secured just two wins all season but Dempsey has still managed to impress, netting six goals so far in all competitions. However Roy Hodgson may find it hard to persuade Hughes to sell such an integral part of his side and a move would only have a chance of success if the former New England Revolution man pushed for an exit.

Liverpool have found goals hard to come by this season, scoring just 17 goals in 15 Premier League matches, and a move for Clint Dempsey would make a great deal of sense as he has the ability to make opportunities for others as well as net relatively frequently himself.

Dempsey is the only player from Fulham I rate and would have liked Roy to take with him at the start of the season.

However It would be a joke if we signed him for 10m. 5m tops for me.

I'm one of the biggest American homers and think Dempsey is the best American outfield player there is, along with Michael Bradley who plays in the Bundesliga. Dempsey can make anything happen out of nothing.

That being said, he is not Liverpool quality. He has quality moments but is too inconsistent. If it were for 5 mill I agree, maybe, but 10 is too much for someone who will struggle to make the Starting 11 consistently.

Extremely average player, the only way this lad would ever get a chance to play with Liverpool is with a manager like Hodgson in charge.

I am an American, and Dempsey is a star here. For that reason he should have had a great World Cup on the national stage, he didn't because he is over-rated. He can be a star for a mid table team like Fulham. For us and on this team, he is not quality, he is not a star in the making, he will sit on the bench and want playing time because players like Lucas, Shelvey, Gerrard, Meireles, Pacheco, etc... would all be above him by the time he gets here. I'm sorry but I just don't see any logic in this.

Again, a sign that our expectations are being managed to be linked with Dempsey.  To be honest, if this is true, I find it rather offensive from Mr Hodgson.

Why not let Roy just sign everyone he signed for Fulham and be done with it.  We can then enjoy relegation battles every year.

Dempsey is a good player who chips in with a decent amount of goals but I would only want him if we got two or three quality young players as well.

Another player getting towards 30 and our squad has enoughh of them already.

Dempsey is good but never good enough for us, but it's Roy. He always have a soft spot for Fulham anyway and he has the nick for average bargain basement players like Poulsen. If it's true, looks like we are turning to a new look Fulham.

Don't see any position where he would be better than our current starters.

Would sign him if he was free or near to be as he can be a decent squad player versatile enough to be usefull to have on the bench but would be a shame to pay 10 or even 6 or 7m for him.

I'll say no for the reason that Cole, Gerrard, Maxi, Kuyt, Cole and Jova are all on the old side so I'd like younger players to be added.

Think he's a good player though, very versatile and is quite creative.

If he signs him then....then....I dont know what I'll do! Surely the owners wouldn't back this (arggh they are American so actually might)?? Really, I just hope this is the media being lazy and linking the player with the ex-manager. If RH is actually interested in him then we might aswell pack up and go home now because he mustn't understand the difference between Fulham FC and Liverpool FC. Simply not good enough for LFC, but we must remember that he believes that Konchesky and Poulson are so anything is possible.

I really hope this is false.  Not the sort of player we should be signing, but again, a typical 'safe' Roy signing if it happened.  Can't he just leave Fulham players alone - if they were decent they would be in a top side.  Another example of where he wants to take us.

Doesn't fit the mold for the younger more agile team the owners are looking for.

Scores some inspiring goals but way too inconsistant for me.

Konchesky 'back to Fulham' as Liverpool Dempsey
Fulham have been offered a boomerang deal to take back Paul Konchesky, with Liverpool keen to use him in a transfer deal to buy Clint Dempsey.

Konchesky, a Roy Hodgson signing, has been a flop in front of the Kop in his four months at the club - failing to prove his credentials at left-back.

Frozen out of first-team plans since Kenny Dalglish began his reign, Konchesky is limited in his movements due to Premier League rules stipulating a player may not play for more than two top-flight clubs in any one season.

Utility player Chris Baird has been warming Konchesky's old spot in Fulham's defence, but with limited funds Mark Hughes would only be inclined to bring the 29-year-old back to Craven Cottage on a loan deal following his £4m move to Liverpool last August.

Anfield bosses could look to maximise the deal by bringing in highly-rated playmaker Clint Dempsey, who has been in excellent form this season.

The 27-year-old Texan, who is contracted to the Cottagers until 2013, makes sense for the Reds' American owners New England Sports Ventures who are keen to focus on maximising players' marketing potential.

Another option for Konchesky is a temporary move down to the Championship.

High-flying Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock has been actively searching for a defender and Konchesky's stature could help the club in their quest for a spot in next year's top-flight.

      http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/media-watch/konchesky-back-to-fulham-as-liverpool-dempsey

This could have gone into the Konchesky thread, too, but I just figured I'd resurrect this thread in case this gains momentum.

I don't like to quote the gossip, especially from our own website ffs, but I like the idea of Konchesky leaving too much to let this opportunity pass me by. :D

Dempsey is half decent and could be a good impact sub when we need goals, but he's not quite the quality Liverpool need if we are returning to the top of the table. I'm a big fan of the lad, especially as a fellow Yank, but he is not quite up to par for this squad.

Don't want him myself, but if they want to make a swap with Konchesky going the other way, then Dempsey is more than welcome to sit on the bench while Nando and Suarez assault the opposition's goal.

Tbh I think I rate Dempsey above N'gog. He's no featherweight and has a good amount of fight in him.

Still, he's midtable fodder and there's better to be had.

Hmm, I'm a bit baffled by the suggestion that he's 'mid-table', considering his goals and assists are against the very teams we play week in week out.  :-\

Whilst there may be better 'out there': there's also worse. Dempsey is a proven attack minded/creative midfielder; something apart from Gerrard we lack. In short, if he signed for us, I wouldn't be fretting.

I honestly think Dempsey would be a very clever signing, premiership proven, most importantly he can score goals. With this Luis Suarez situation dragging on will we?, won't we? etc.

Plus if we getting rid of konchesky all the better, but cannot see fulham letting go one of their top players, should concentrate on getting Suarez with Charlie Adam in mind could do a very decent job for us?

Anybody impressed by Matt Jarvis this season?, could be a decent signing for 2-3 mil
