      Ronaldinho (AC Milan)

Liverpool FC join chasing pack in pursuit of World Cup-winning star

by Richard Buxton. Published Tue 07 Dec 2010 15:04, Last updated: 2010-12-07

Liverpool have emerged as the latest club reportedly interested in AC Milan attacker Ronaldinho.

Since joining the Serie A giants in summer 2008, the Brazilian playmaker has seen his stock diminish under Massimiliano Allegri and could be Anfield bound next summer when his current contract expires at the end of June.

Negotiations for the 30-year-old could start as early as January and Roy Hodgson is believed to be monitoring his situation with a view to partnering him with current Reds striker Fernando Torres, who has struggled to lead the line at times owing to the lack of support alongside him.

LA Galaxy remain the favourites to capture his signature with former Rossoneri team mate and England captain David Beckham eager to lure the former World Cup winner, who has an extensive list of personal accolades, to Los Angeles.

Another stumbling block to Hodgson's plans would be Ronaldinho's annual wage demands of €7.5million (£6.3M), which go against the ethic of the club's new owners, although he is expected to take a pay cut if he is able to secure a move to a club in his homeland, with several clubs also interested.

If we waste money on him we've given up. Best player in the world at his time, but is far past his best.

Why not? Been ages since we had an exciting player. We could do with somebody who isn't scared of the ball.

However he goes against everything NESV have said about their policy, but exceptions can be made!

Can't see it happening, goes against every statement NESV have made in their preference for youth instead of played out reputations and your man is just that - his better days are long behind him as is his passion for the game.
Do not understand the connection with RH whatsoever.

I'd get his shirt! Be amazing to have him here.

With Ronaldinho you have to let your inner child out.

Forget the fact he can be style over substance, forget the fact he is 30, forget the fact he doesn't track back, forget the fact he is on ridiculous wages. Just enjoy him for what he is.

      A complete footballing genius.

I would love him here to be honest.

But thats only if he took a huge pay-cut to match his abilities these days, which unfortunately he will not. Man still has some magic in him, seen that at Milan - but i don't wanna see Liverpool throwing money at a player that, as absolutely brilliant as he once was, will only be diminishing as time goes on.

but he is definitely past his best. hasn't been at his best since he left barcelona. the best in the world in his prime though.
and i wouldn't like to see him not tracking back and leaving Konchkesky isolated.

"Roy Hodgson is believed to be monitoring his situation with a view to partnering him with current Reds striker Fernando Torres"

He would be playing as a foil for Torres though according to this reliable source...  *cough*

Past his best yes, but still considerably better than anything we have in his position at the moment.

Football is entertainment, and Ronaldinho would make Liverpool an entertaining side to watch once more.

So Roy will go for Luis Boa Morte instead.

I think he would be a great support player to create chances for Torres, but do we really need him?  With the Meireles/Lucas partnership flourishing in the middle, that leaves Stevie to play in the support striker role, and he already has a wonderful understanding with Nando.  However, he does bring the added versatility of being able to play quite well as a winger....

I guess the short answer is that I have mixed feelings about this one.  If we could get him for 6-7 million and get him down to 70-80 K a week, I think it would be a decent bit of business as long as we don't offer him any more than a 2 year deal.

1 year deal for a cut price and I might think about it.

      Otherwise, no.

He is a diva, doesn't have the hunger anymore. Plus at Barca and AC Milan he is treated differently and pandered to, don't want that kind of player at Liverpool regardless of past ability.

      Not for me, no.

Still has a bit of magic in him but not enough to rely on. Well past it, has no stamina left in him and no pace. Still a lovely passer and link up player but we have Maxi to do that.

Should concentrate on someone else i feel.
