Anderlecht keen on Liverpool forward Milan Jovanovic

Jovanovic joined Liverpool in July 2010
Anderlecht have confirmed their interest in signing Liverpool's Milan Jovanovic - if they can agree personal terms with the Serbian forward.

"We're currently negotiating with Jovanovic, but we couldn't achieve an agreement (yet)," a spokesman for the Belgian side told BBC Sport.

"We're very much interested and the player would like to come."

The 30-year-old Serbia international joined Liverpool in July 2010 but struggled to make an impression.

"Anderlecht are due to contact Liverpool on Wednesday," the spokesman added.

Jovanovic, who moved to Anfield on a free transfer on a three-year deal from another Belgian club Standard Liege, failed to break into the Liverpool first team, making just 15 appearances and scoring four goals last season.

He joined Standard in 2006 and helped them win back-to-back titles in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

Jovanovic, who has also played for Shakhtar Donetsk and Lokomotiv Moscow, made his international debut for Serbia in a 2-0 win over Finland in June 2007 and has won 35 caps.

Liverpool, who have spent approaching £50m on Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam during the summer - are keen to offload a number of fringe players in their squad.

      Jovanovic nears Anderlecht move

Liverpool forward Milan Jovanovic appears to be edging closer to an Anfield exit after Anderlecht opened transfer talks with the Serbian.

The 30-year-old joined the Reds on a free transfer last summer from Standard Liege but struggled to hold down a regular place.

He made just one start after Kenny Dalglish took over for the second half of the season and did not make the squad for the final four months of the campaign.

The Serbia international's wife has already expressed her preference to return to Belgium and it appears Anderlecht have made their move.

"We're currently negotiating with Jovanovic but we couldn't achieve an agreement (yet)," a spokesman for the Belgian side told BBC Sport.

"We're very much interested and the player would like to come.

"Anderlecht are due to contact Liverpool today."

Jovanovic is one of a number of players surplus to requirements at Anfield and has been told he can leave.

The stumbling block so far has been finding a club willing to come close to matching the player's current wages, which are believed to be around £60,000 a week.

Still think we should be expecting money for him, think he is far from the sh*te player he is portrayed. He was Serbias best player at the World Cup maybe he is just not suited for The Premiership saying that in fairness he got very little of a chance

Think its too late for him to be given a chance, when he did play at times he seemed pacy and strong but then at other times, he lost control of the ball and seemed like a headless chicken.

Ya but still think we should be looking for money. If we had being paying for him last season with his World Cup we would have paid about £10 million

Fair enough, but if we don't get any money for him, maybe that signals that the transfer interest in other players may be over, as ive read in various places, we need to sell to buy now.

his wages that he has been earning will put off possible suitors if they had to pay a fee on top.. id imagine that any fee we have waved will act as a signing on fee for him to move

Jova linked with move to Middle East
      23rd Jul 2011 - Transfer Gossip

Liverpool forward Milan Jovanovic is understood to have been offered the chance to move to the Middle East and play for Al-Shabab Riyadh.

According to The Daily Mail, former Standard Liege manager Michel Preud'homme wants to bring the Serbian to the wealthy Saudi Arabian club and is willing to match his current salary in order to persuade him.

It had seemed likely that Jovanovic, who signed last year on a free transfer from Liege, would return to Belgium by joining Anderlecht, who had claimed that a deal was close to being completed.

However, the Belgian club's move for the 30-year-old international could now be in jeopardy as it is said he would not have to take a drop in his weekly wages should he move to the Middle East.

Jovanovic has had an unhappy spell on Merseyside since Roy Hodgson signed him last summer following the World Cup.

He managed only 18 appearances and two goals in total for the Reds, and played just twice under Kenny Dalglish following the manager's appointment in January.

He fell down the Liverpool pecking order when Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez joined the club in January, and the recent arrivals of Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam mean his opportunities of first-team action now appear even slimmer.

      Thank Christ

Milan Jovanovic will 'definitely' move to Belgian side Anderlecht from Liverpool, according to the player's representative.

The 30-year-old striker signed for the Reds from Standard Liege last summer but has failed to make an impact at Anfield, scoring just twice in 18 appearances.

Jovanovic's representative, Dejan Velkovic is optimistic that a deal is about to be agreed, although officials from Anderlecht say the player's wages may scupper the negotiations.

Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck said: "There is a gap between what we can offer and what the player gets at Liverpool."
      Talking

The Serbia international is on a reported £65,000 a week at Liverpool, but Veljkovic is adamant that the transfer will go through.

He told Het Nieuwsblad: "Milan will definitely come to Anderlecht.

"We are talking again and everything looks good: the sporting aspects, financial, contributions. We are still a few solutions [away] but there is movement."

Several clubs from the Middle East are believed to be interested in signing the player, but he wants to stay in Europe to help his international career.

How the F**k did we end up paying this bloke £65,000 a week?. Even if that figure is not exact it's there or thereabouts. I don't care how we ended up with him, this signing was a complete joke. The fact that we paid such a mediocre player such high wages, regardless if he was a free transfer, is beyond comprehension. Especially when we had Pacheco, even Shelvey.

Mate I agree, however with the loons H£G in charge every day at Liverpool was a day when you could bury bad news and bad signings. If you actually do some digging and peel back the tosh there have been some horrendous signings.

Closing in to Anderlecht according to rumors. They're not even close to to match the wages he earns with us, but who could ( would have wanted) ? Someone should asked him, 'Do you want to play football or not' ?

Someone should have asked him that in January when we'd have got £6m for him...
