Cisse set for sensational Liverpool return? Former Anfield striker meets Gerrard over lunch

By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER Last updated at 11:38 AM on 28th December 2010

Reds skipper Steven Gerrard was spotted having lunch with former team-mate Djibril Cisse on Monday afternoon, fuelling speculation that the striker is set for a sensational return to Anfield.

      [/right]

Old pals: Djibril Cisse (left) and Steven Gerrard met at San Carlo in Liverpool
Cisse, who is currently playing for Greek side Panathinaikos, spent two seasons with Liverpool between 2004 and 2006, dined with Gerrard at the city centre San Carlo restaurant.
Quite what the pair were discussing remains a mystery but the Kop faithful will be hoping that under-fire boss Roy Hodgson is not preparing a January swoop.

Tough times: Djibril Cisse struggled to win over the fans during his Liverpool spell
Cisse failed to make his mark at Anfield - partly down to a broken leg he suffered three months into his Reds career, and partly due to poor form - so it would be surprising to see him return to Merseyside.
But his meeting with Gerrard, who holds huge influence at the club in his role as skipper, suggests that there is genuine interest from Hodgson.

Wouldn't mind him back. Had a good goal scoring record here.

No thank you, we had quite enough silly haircuts to look at when he was here and all. Not sure if just because Gerrard's had lunch with him we're trying to sign him either, as they say themselves "what the pair were discussing remains a mystery". Could it just be two old friends having lunch? Surely not...

'Sensational' comeback, jeez, he's anything but sensational.

Never rated him as a player, the only thing above average about him is his pace, everything else is average or worse. Not a fan of his attitude and his behavior outside the pitch either.

Indeed lfc.tv says 24 in 79. Thought it was more also.

Anyway, no. Older, won't have his pace forever, still a scratchy finisher and still a headless chicken off the ball.

No chance, although I did like him because he was a bit of a headcase and showed a lot of bollax coming back from the broken leg.

Scored 24 goals in 79 games for us, not bad considering the injuries and a lot of sub appearances.

Lazy journo sh*te... I know he feels like he has unfinished business and he's deffo Liverpool through and through but even I think the ship has sailed.. If we didn't have David I'd have him back in a flash but he's not the high profile signing we need up front right now..

Come off it, N'Gog has improved a hell of a lot since last season and is not a bad back up to Torres don't get me wrong though we do need at least another 2 strikers to compete at the top again

      Piss off!

Like the guy. Seemed like he loved the club. Didnt see eye to eye with Rafa.

A better player than N'Gog but if we're going to the bother of buying a striker, lets buy a proper one who will guarantee us goals.

If the club interest to sign Cisse again it's just prove Comolli might want to build his sh*t French empire here, oh god no please !

And what the funny is since we bought in Poulsen and Kochesky it look very enjoy for the press to throw as much as possible sh*t into LFC.

Canal + (french tv) seem to believe he will end the season in england. Last time he scored they were saying it could be his last goal for Panathinaikos as he is "in contact" with "several premiere league clubs". They have not named 'pool anyway.

I doubt it would be us considered his age and nesv policy, but I don't think he would be an awful signing (if he is cheap enough), some of his actions were impressive this season (ie : his assist in first match against Barcelona), and he may very well succeed if he comes back to PL.
