Liverpool 'make official enquiry' for €17m wing wonder

Liverpool are reportedly set to make a move for Valencia winger Pablo Hernandez.

The Spaniard is said to be frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities on offer with Los Che and is now looking elsewhere for more regular football.

According to The Mirror, this has alerted Liverpool to his availability and Transfer Tavern now reports the Anfield club have made on 'official enquiry'.

Hernandez is the latest in a long line of attacking players to have been linked with with a January move to Liverpool as the Reds look to increase their goalscoring options.

Aston Villa winger Ashley Young is reportedly on the Liverpool radar, as is Manchester City's Shaun Wright-Phillips as speculation mounts that the Reds will spend big in the transfer window.

However, Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli has moved to calm rumours that there will be plenty of numerous new arrivals at Anfield by the end of the month.

"I will stick to what I said from the beginning: if [Liverpool boss] Kenny Dalglish is not happy with a player we think could make the team better then it's always down to the manager. That hasn't changed," Comolli said at a Liverpool press conference unveiling Dalglish.

"We didn't even have chance to talk about the transfer window yet. We have been working on it with Roy [Hodgson] and the owners but I need to update Kenny on what's going on.

"Will there be some activity? I don't know. I still don't know. It's a very complicated market in January."

If he costs 17 million, then this is a pass from me.  I'd be interested in the 10-12 million range, but nothing more.

17 million wing wonder, will someone explain why he is not on the Valencia team then. He is a poor mans Mata. He is clever and maybe worth a gamble at 7 million but 17 million you are having a laugh.

I would pay 17 million for Mata though. We should defiantly be looking at him, only got 18 months on his contract and Valencia need the money. Second highest assist's in la liga last year, 14 goals this year, pretty impressive for a 21 year old. Perfect for our left wing.

A lot of money for a lad who cant get a game. Would rather Red Mata. Stump up the extra cash

10m max i'd go for him. I think he's a great little player but for 17m it's definitely not worth it.

Agreed, but if he is committed for four years instead of one then you might be looking at a 25+ million pound price tag then a 15 million pound one.

Would prefer Mata, at 17 mill euros it's a bit expensive, would say below 15 mill euros would be okay.

Would certainly be interested in this fella. However, i wonder how much truth there is in the report as i believe that Dalglish will aim to bring in a new wave of players and he will probably keep it British. In saying that, with Comolli at the club, you just never know....

Quite a handy player. Not sure if he'd cement his place permanently on the right wing, though. Maybe a squad player, but a decent squad player unlike a lot of the sh*te we currently have.

If he's a squad player, we don't need him. We need first choice players.

He isn't playing because he doesn't fit in the style of Valencia that they are trying to shape themselves into.

He'd fit in here, but as i said, 17m is wayyyy too much.
