Liverpool FC signs deal with video search firm for game highlights editing package
Dec 27 2010 by Alistair Houghton, Liverpool Daily Post

VIDEO search and navigation company Edit.TV has signed a deal with Liverpool FC to offer fans personalised match highlights.

Liverpool-based Edit.TV says LFC is the first major sports club to sign up to its YourSportTV application.

The service – backed by 17 patents – means fans can search and tag video of a match to create their own highlights package.

A free trial of the service is now available to subscribers on the club’s website

The deal with LFC has been warmly welcomed by both Old Hall Street-based Edit.TV and Press Association Sport, which has come on board as the “official data partner” of Edit.TV and will sell YourSportTV to holders of global TV rights for sports events.

The two companies will work closely together to market the technology to rights holders including sports clubs and competition owners, online broadcasters and bookmakers.

Matt O’Connor, one of Edit.TV’s directors, said: “We are delighted to have signed a contract with Liverpool FC for the 2011/12 season following a successful trialling of our technology.

“Liverpool fans will be the first in the UK to be able to take advantage of the service which we believe will transform the way they are able to watch their team.

“They will be able to find the specific action footage they want, such as a Gerrard free kick or Reina save, at the touch of a button.

“Our technology synchronises sports data with video footage to timestamp match events. These events are then displayed as icons via a user-friendly control panel and can be viewed on-demand or added to a playlist to compile a sports video showreel.”

Andrew Robinson, head of digital media for Liverpool Football Club, said: “We are excited at the prospect of our LFCTV Online subscribers being able to search within and across matches to collate playlists and share with their friends.

“YourSportTV will increase the enjoyment of our fans through its ability to offer a more detailed, analytical, user-driven engagement of match content across domestic and European matches.”

Edit.TV and PA Sport are working to sell the technology to other sporting organisations as well as to companies in the worlds of news, business and entertainment.

Edit.TV, which was founded in 1995, says it is already in negotiations with a number of other major organisations and expects to announce more contract wins in the New Year.
