      Agree.

I haven't bought much new music this year as nothing has really grabbed my attention. I've been going back and getting stuff I've missed like The National.

      6) F**ked Up - David Comes To Life

Well reminded, I never got round to getting this.

I agree with the general sentiment that it hasn't been a great year for new albums.

      It is indeed.

I'm still a bit pissed off I overlooked them as they are just the type of band I like and even more annoying when I found out racer and Brooklynred had been going on about them for quite a while.

      Still better late than never.

Says a lot that the best albums were re-issues.
      Pearl Jam. Nirvana. Smashing Pumpkins.

In fairness Black Keys are a cracking band.

The Smile Sessions by The Beach Boys - absolute quality. Like the best scrap book of all time.

Did Pink Floyd have a re-release this year?

Most of their back catalogue isn't it.

Seen a load of their albums being advertised in HMV last week.

The Discovery editions collect the band's original 14 studio albums, newly remastered for 2011. They were released worldwide on 26 September 2011. The albums can be purchased individually or in a box set which also includes a 60 page book designed by Storm Thorgerson. All albums feature newly designed booklets and CDs.

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967)
      A Saucerful of Secrets (1968)
      More (1969)
      Ummagumma (double album) (1969)
      Atom Heart Mother (1970)
      Meddle (1971)
      Obscured by Clouds (1972)
The Dark Side of the Moon (1973)
      Wish You Were Here (1975)
      Animals (1977)
      The Wall (1979)
      The Final Cut (1983)
A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987)
      The Division Bell (1994)

      Money! It's a trap!

Only cements this as the re-release year.

And a few more next year!

      Phase 1
Phase 1 of the Why Pink Floyd...? campaign began on 26 September 2011 with the release of The Dark Side of the Moon "Experience", "Immersion" and vinyl editions; a re-release of all 14 studio albums, newly remastered for 2011 & a "Discovery" box set containing all 14 studio albums and a colour booklet.

      Phase 2
Phase 2 of the campaign began on 7 November 2011 with the release of the Wish You Were Here "Experience", "Immersion", SACD and vinyl editions; a new "best of" album entitled The Best of Pink Floyd: A Foot in the Door. Phase 2 continues with the release of a Pink Floyd iOS app on 14 November 2011.

      Phase 3
Phase 3 will begin on 27 February 2012 with the release of The Wall "Experience", "Immersion" and vinyl editions.

Because I am bored I have decided to do a month by month list...

      JANUARY 2011

Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean ; Amazing, just love this guy. If you're looking to chill out, this is perfect

Chase & Status - No More Idols ; Loved this, and so many big hits have come from it too.

      FEBRUARY

      Just kidding...

Patrick Stump - Truant Wave ; Mainly because I am such a big Fall Out Boy fan... It's different to FOB but I still like this EP

Rev Theory - Justice ; Play LOUD. Metal lovers will enjoy.

      MARCH

Noah and The Whale - Last Night on Earth ; Great Band, still listening to this a few months on. Track 3 is a highlight for me, perfect for chilling out.

      RISE AGAINST - ENDGAME ; A must have in my list, top 5 in my albums of this year easily. Here's a reason why ;

Rise Against - Make It Stop (September's Children)

Green Day - Awesome as F**k ; Not as good as Bullet in a Bible in my opinion however defo a good album any Green Day fan should listen too.

PANIC AT THE DISCO - VICES AND VIRTUES ; Such a quality album, could listen to nothing but this for a month. Important you listen from start to finish, makes it better.

      APRIL

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light ; Classic Foo's. Still can't quite topple The Colour and The Shape in my eyes (or ears) but a great album nonetheless

TV on The Radio - 9 Types Of Light ; If you have not listened to these guys before, do so now. Genuinely beautiful album, a must have in my eyes.

TV On The Radio - Will Do

GORILLAZ - THE FALL ; I LOVE The Gorillaz so I may be biased but their music is unlike anyone else. Albarn is a genius.

      MAY

Foster the People - Torches ; One of the biggest bands this year. 2 songs stand out, Pumped up Kids and Life on the Nikel which I expect to be released soon.

MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA - SIMPLE MATH ; Should be more famous than they are. Andy Hull has the best voice in the business today. Here's a quick glipse. Top 5 albums of the year for me.

Manchester Orchestra - Pensacola Off of Simple Math

      JUNE

Frank Turner - Keep England in my Bones ; Not his best album, however if you don't know who Frank Turner is you can thank me later. He is one of my favourite artists. See "Love Ire and Song" for his best work

City & Colour - Little Hell ; Wonderful, always a easy listening band with Dallas Green's amazing voice. Don't see how anyone couldn't enjoy the sound of this.

BON IVER - BON IVER ; Brace yourself if you have not listened to this yet. It is quite frankly brilliant, you get lost in the album and want more when it's over.

      JULY

      Nothing of note

      AUGUST

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - I'm With You ; Welcome back! Such a long wait. Was it as good as Stadium Arcadium... Don't think anyone expected it to be, but at least the band is back together with Josh instead of John (dare I say he's a better guitarist)

      SEPTEMBER

Switchfoot - Vice Verses ; Solid album, nothing to tell the grandkids about... and then it grows on you. Watch out.

      OCTOBER

COLDPLAY - MYLO XYLOTO; Another top 5 of the year for me. Best album they've released in my opinion. Paradise is still stuck in my head as is this beauty

      Coldplay - Charlie Brown

And that album was last I've listened too chronologically... Well hope you liked that, there's an album there for everyone. That killed some time. Excellent.

Good shout with City & Color, Mags. Still gutted that Alexisonfire have split but at least we can still hear new stuff from Dallas.
Not a fan of the new RHCP stuff at all though, think they've had their day now.

      RHCP without John Frusciante.

      NO!

Good shout on Chase & Status.

I did like the Foos new album, but none of their work stacks up to The Colour And The Shape.

Great list Magillionaire. Good to see Gorillaz in there as well. Easy to forget they released The Fall. Haven't bought the album yet but it's just another finely produced Albarn record. And Charlie Brown from Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay is just a totally sublime song. Thought this was amazing live. Those sort of songs I think elevated them to an even greater scale as a live band. Chris Martin no matter what you say about him has a real talent for writing phenomenal and memorable melodies.

Coldplay - " Charlie Brown " ( Mylo Xyloto ) HQ Live @ Rock am Ring festival : Germany

Along with R.E.M's Uberlin, it's my favourite song of the year. R.E.M's record Collapse Into Now is a very good album to finish off their career.

      R.E.M -Uberlin (2011)

Also Noel Gallagher's album was just as I expected this year. Quality song writing. I think this is my favourite from the album.

      Noel Gallagher's H.F.B. - AKA... Broken Arrow - Live BBC Radio 2 [03/11/2011]

Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo and Ryan Adams - Ashes & fire standout for me, not much else has inspired this year.

Add The Black Keys - El Camino to that as I had it for Christmas  ;D
