Problem for Warnock was he was bang average. Always having a dig at Rafa
Bloody hell - he still at it?. Warnock has been having a dig at Rafa
(and many of his other managers) to anyone who'll listen in the media for years.
He should likely change the record and do the rounds again telling the old story about how he couldn't play for Rafa after going out to a party the night before a match
(on more than one occasion, IIRC?). Something like he wasn't originally in the squad list, but was called up to play as something had happened to the 1st choice left-back... and he then had to tell Rafa he also couldn't play - and why... then had a cob on with Rafa as Rafa had called him 'unprofessional'.
Or the story of him denied an apparent transfer back to Liverpool by 'bitter boss' and 'horrible man' Gerard Houllier. Or other more recent media interviews of him slating Rafa, Houllier, O'Neill, Lambert, the Leeds boss Cellino, and so on
(a pattern is emerging here)...
His stories really are nearly as miserable as his commentary.
He played around 30 times in each of 2004-06
(and about half the the league matches in each season too). Rafa had decided to bomb him out in the 2nd season - and for seemingly good reason. You'd think he was a legend, stalwart or Maldini the way Warnock talks...
Still, Warnock's having a good career in the media after being willing to repeatedly sh*t on his previous managers, and other tales of woe, so...
Anyway, being omitted from the Istanbul squad... yeah, maybe the admin error was a little harsh on him. Although *if* he'd proven himself 'unprofessional' or unreliable, would you have counted on him in the 18-man squad vs Milan in the Final? Nor me, I'd gone with the more reliable, professional and more experienced players, too.
To be fair to Warnock, he did quickly apologise for his remarks about us fans '
turning up late' for the Bilbao friendly match at Anfield when queues started and the kick-off was delayed
(NFC entry was introduced and that was the actual issue, but y'know...) when he was commentating for LFCTV, after fans and members of the Hillsborough families called him and Spackman out for it.
When he's on match commentary I'll switch to another stream, or mute it. Awful commentator - no joy, passion, love for the game comes through - just '
he did that wrong - he should have done this' after the fact / '
I sound like I would rather be doing anything else than being paid to talk about football' type commentary.
I best stop there... I'm beginning to start sounding like that miserable arse Stephen Warnock
