I used to be satisfied finishing top 4 at least every season.

Nowadays, 5th or 6th seems like a big achievement. Really is a shame.

I just hope over the next couple of seasons or so we can begin to earn our right to be up there again.

Would I f**k. Being satisfied coming 5th or 6th is accepting we're no longer the greatest side in club football. I'm satisfied with first and first alone, anything else for this club is failure.

If you are first you are first. If you are second, you are nothing.

I'm with this guy, F**k 5/6th or a C.L. spot  ! we're the greatest side in club football and if anyone wishes to settle for less then go follow another side will you.
so what you lot are saying is once we reach 5/6 stop trying and tread water so to speak ?
If we're settling for second best why didn't we keep woy ?

Not bothered one way or the other.
Does qualifying for Europe mean we have a better squad? No.
I'll be happy if we get quality players in January and the summer and are challenging for the title soon.
A byproduct of that being we get back to Champions League to allow us compete financially and restore our number one status in Europe

And it was that attitude that helped turn us into "a bastion of invincibility". If we want those days to return then we have to F**k off this attitude of being "satisfied" with anything other than first.

      Just imagine, we're 30 May 2011.

Liverpool FC finished 6th of the EPL.
      ..... but we have;
-kept Gerrard, Reina, Torres, Johnson, Agger etc(our best players)
-signed 3/4 quality players during January
-been playing attractive attacking football and good results have followed.

      would you be satisfied?

I'd be calling for Kenny to get the job full-time.

Anything above 7th is gonna be better than last season, and with the sh*t start we have had. Will be a mega bonus.

But very achievable if we can string some results together.

I wouldn't say happy is how I would feel to finish 5th or 6th but its a start and something that seemed impossible a couple of days ago.

I agree with those who demand first. THis is the standard, no doubt about it. However, the team have not been at that standard for nearly 20 years now. So realistically 5/6th is going in the right direction and realistic for this season. Nest season is a different matter!

Laugh all you want, but I think we can still realistically finish fourth...and thats what I'll be happy with. We are only 11 points off Spurs and the chavs with a game in hand.
Satisfied with 6th, and keep the players, yes I guess so, but not happy.

I'd be just happy we'd got shut of the owl, brought in the King and depending on what happens also give him the proper farewell he didn't get last time.

Considering the half season we have gone through, I'd take that any day.

But if you ask me this at the start of each season, of course not.

      Why?

We're ten points behind fifth, and a mere one extra point behind fourth. If, as modern football fans are lead to believe, that Champions League football is the be all and end all then why is not realistic that we can still get fourth? Is one point really that much of a difference?

We're 19 points behind United, which realistically isn't gonna be caught. But, so what if realistically it isn't gonna happen. Realistically we weren't gonna come back in 77 against St Ettienne. Realistically we weren't gonna come back against Arsenal in 2001. Realistically we weren't gonna come back against AC Milan in 2005. Realistically United weren't gonna claw back the League from Newcastle in 96 or 97 (whenever Newcastle had it wrapped then fu**ed it up). And realistically, 20 years ago when Kenny Dalglish resigned as manager of this great club very few thought he'd return let alone two decades later.

Realistically, things can be done and for what it's worth, realistically we can win the League because this club is famous for overcoming the odds. So I still wouldn't be satisfied with anything other than first. And while it's possible to win the League, I believe we will - not can but will.

I will never be satisfied till we finish in our rightful place and that is first, this situation of finishing in the top four to get into European champions cup is not acceptable to a club that has had so much success.Finish first, first, first every time and let the good times roll once again at Anfield.

I expect we'll finish 6th and I'd be satisfied with that given the start we've had, I'd be pleased with 5th - that would represent a great improvement.

Next year, with the right investment, I reckon we could genuinely challenge for the title :)

Half a season left due to Hick's Gillett's and Hodgson's damage.

6th would be more than good for me as we were in a bad place a month or so ago.

It would improve on Rafa's WHOLE season of 2009-10.

I will be satisfied if we give everything in the remaining games and we play good football and go in the right direction and finish as high as we can in the league and beat teams we should beat.
We are too far away to be challenging but until its impossible to get to the top why except anything else.
There is a difference between accepting the unnaceptable and accepting that you've done your best and could not have tried any harder or given any more.
Kenny will not accept anything less than giving everything and that is good enough for me.

If we win our game in hand, we will only be 8 points from 4th place. That has to remain our primary target.

I agree, but even if we win on Wednesday then go on to beat Spurs and Chelsea, we are still 5 points off 4th. I thought we could do it before the Blackburn game, now I'm not so sure.  If Kenny gets us to 4th, the guy deserves a medal nevermind the job full-time.  It is a lot to ask at present, but if anyone can do it, Kenny can.  I will reassess our position before the Chelsea game (when we'll've played one game more than Chelsea and Spurs) and later in the seasons, but at the moment, I doubt the other two will drop enough points for us to get 4th.
