      Pro Evo v FIFA.
      Jul 28, 2007 07:23:46 pm
Big debate between most PS2 (and to a lesser extent PC) users; which is better, the Pro Evo, or FIFA series. I myself have consistently bought every PES since 2, and enjoy it immensely. There's a little annoying period from when you get the game, till you actually get to play it because of the need to edit most bloody team names in the Premiership, but at least there's now licenses for La Liga, Dutch Erevirdse (sp?), Serie A, French league, and a bunch of other teams like Celtic and Rangers. I did buy FIFA 07, but wasn't a fan, and sold it on. For me, the game was too easy in the lower leagues (with Wycombe's midfield hammering in 40 yard strikes on the turn...) and the players animations seemed unrealistic. I think PES is the best bet for a simulation of what real footie's like, and if only it had FIFA's licenses it would be perfect.

What's everyones opinions on these two games? Which do you buy usually, and which will you get this year?

I've actually always liked Fifa - I know a lot of people back Pro Evo but maybe I'm just lazy and with the licences and everything.

I am crying out for a PS3 footie game and both of the big guns come out in the Autumn. Because I have been starved of a good footy game I will probably get both so will be in the perfect place to give an assessment.

I pretty much like any footie game as long as its realistic and I do like the 'passing in to space' on both games.

Well it's alright for some huh! :) A PS3 and enough to buy both games! Aren't they 40-50 quid each PS3 games?

Well I gotta say I'm a Fifa man myself and have tried playing Pro Evolution but it bores me abit, the players seem a bit over the top in gameplay whereas fifa keeps it real, well sort of has anyone actually seen the ref when he's not giving out a card? (Fifa 07 PS2)

I have also seen Fifa 07 tournaments being played on the XBOX Live on Xleague.tv looks pretty good but I don't think it can be used with the PS2.

Pro Evo may be better on the ps 2 or xbox but.. when it comes to the xbox 360 there is no comparison fifa is better every time hands down, probably down to the fact that fifa 2007 was EA's 3rd attempt at a footie game on the next gen consoles and Pro Evo 6 was only Konami's first, i still think Fifa 08 will be better than Pro Evo 2008 but it will be a lot closer contest this time round, i agree with the fact that Fifa can become a little repetitive and get easy but on the 360 there isn't the obvious 'match killer' goal on Fifa 07 which me and my mates call it, the guaranteed goal from a certain position, every Fifa player will know what i'm talking about ;D, there is a much better engine to the game and ball physcs which make it a lot better and almost a whole different game compared to Fifa 07 on the ps2, anyway back to the question Fifa everytime!!!

Is this "match killer" you are talking about got to do with the "45 degree angle" at which you shoot outside the box which is almost certain to beat the keeper if shot with enough power?

Nah I think cristov means when u get the ball bang centre on target from the half way line with someone like Pennant and the keeper is just off his line, gets a touch but it rolls in anyway! thats football for ya!

PS2 just broke, so I was looking for a footie game on the PC and I came across a fully updated (till August 10th) version of PES on ebay. It's got kits, transfers, stadiums, player faces, and a bundle of other stuff. Check it out! here

having no footie game to get me through at the moment, picking that up for a fiver made me very very happy.

No contest, has to be pro. I've always found Fifa far too easy, once you learn how to beat the computer you can do it every time, pro has much better gameplay. I actually only converted two years ago, I was always put off by the lack of official kits etc, wish I had done a lot sooner.

I was playing the computer on the 360 which is by far tougher than the PS2 version of PES6.

Anyway I was Barca facing Chelsea and I was all over them on the hardest mode.. somehow they beat me 2 - 1
Then I want revenge as its Chelsea so I pick Milan and things get even worse, they go 2 - 0 up and they are again through on goal so I hack their player down and Nesta is sent off for being the last man... I lost the match 8 - 0 in the end.. very dissapointed with myself, but the 360 version of PES6 is very very tough.. you must play it!

The PS2 is for kids, I cream the computer all day long on the PS2

As for Fifa... its crap, don't ever buy it!

i used to be a fifa believer
just for the fact i heard of it first and it was licensed
but as time got on it was just far to easy
even on the so called legendary difficulty
so i rented pro evo 5 a while ago and found it more challenging
and i like the fact u can customize almost everything
as apposed to fifa's bare minimum
i only own pro evo 4
pro evo 5 still cost about $90 aus and i don't wanna splash out
i'm saving to come over there
so i bought pro evo 4 for a tidy $20 aus
and i love it more than fifa 07 by far

for me i i play both fifa 07 online and pro evo 6 online and both games have there good and bad points

pro evo is smooth online but it gets a bit boring doing the same goals into the corner in the box and obviously there are no licenses

fifa 07 online is delayed so from actually pressing the button to it happening on the screen there is a delay which ruins it if you wanna play a quick passing games but the licensed teams etc and stadiums make it better than pro evo

To sum up if fifa was like pro evo online and pro evo was like fifa with fully licensed teams then im sure it would be a great al round game.

seriously all you fifa players dont know what your missing out on by playing that rather than pro.

the graphics on the 360 version of pro wernt great but thats because they didnt have much time and it was rushed but pes2008 will make up for it as they have had a whole year to perfect it. regardless of graphics and kits , teamnames ect ect , pro's gameplay is by far the best and that for me is all that really matters.
ive got it for the 360 and im hooked on playing online against mancs and what not ... so addictive winding up mancs on the old headset while crouchie is bangin em in .
i cant wait for the new pro because lpool will be well better on it aswell , cause they are a bit dodgy on the current version . the purchase of fernando torres should see  to that because he is class on pro 7 .
the only thing i think is abit crap about pro is the fact that whoever they decide is on the box , is amazing in the game . for example john terry and adriano where ridiculously overated on the last one

Can I ask why Pro evo is even likable?
The seasons which is the only thing I use Fifa for are terrible on Pro evo!
Fifa have the licenses to stadiums, Fifa 08-Anfield, PES 08-Red Cauldron, that stuff just makes the game seem like a fake copy.
Only thing PES has over Fifa is the shots are a little bit more realistic!
And one more thing, Shouldn't Football Manager be in the mix?

Pro's gameplay is much much much more realistic than Fifa. The the players move on and off the ball, the general play and graphics are much better. Yes FIFA have licenses, but these days you can get all sorts of patches and option files that give you all the real kits and updates.

And in FM you don't control the players in the match itself, it's much more focused on the managerial side of things, so I don't think you can compare it to Fifa or PES.

for those interested, the pro evo PC demo is out now, so you can compare it to FIFA! I haven't played the FIFA one, but Pro seems pretty nice, although it's not as good as I expected. Will have to wait for the full game to judge properly...

I feel well placed to pass some comment now in this thread as I have both FIFA 08 and Pro Evo 08 on the PS3.

First impressions - FIFA 08 is a much better game.

FIFA feels more real and actually looks like a real football game - Pro Evo looks, well, so 'computery'!  Maybe it's going to be a grower but I am afraid that being an owner of both - I think FIFA has got Pro Evo licked now.

I know, but she's referring to the FIFA game from a few years ago as opposed to the new version, so maybe it's not so easy now. I havent really played Pro Evo so cant really comment myself!

Stick it on 'Legend' then.  If you're playing against the computer the first task will be getting the ball.

I've played both now and I can honestly say FIFA has won hands down! Got a few mates who are Pro loyal and even they have submitted to FIFA this year!  8)

The graphics are much sweeter on FIFA, as it usually is! The licensing is a massive bonus and finally I can say that FIFA has much better gameplay!

It can only be a good thing for next year though if they're going to continue trying to better each other! We're just going to get more good games!

Ooh County Rd, my money may be swerving toward FIFA if there's more reviews like that.

I'm interested to hear from anyone else who's played both games, and can compare them like County Rd.

Hey - isn't my word good enough for you!

FIFA all the way.  If anyone wants to buy Pro Evo 08 for the PS3 (hardly used) for a slight reduction off the RRP then PM me.  Serious. ;)

Nah... I'm probably trying to figure out if there is an option for 'sh*t' that I need to deselect. ;)  PES IS more reliable for online games I will give you that - there seems to be connection issues with FIFA and I have only completed about 20% of matches - or maybe there is just more 'quitters'.

Been playing a bit of Colin McRae DIRT and had a few goes at TW08 online but I am using my own 'digitally created' user and he is clearly no match for other users who go Tiger Woods etc...
