Get him in, we need a central midfielder with a pair of bollocks. Get him in and ship Poulsen and Lucas out. Then get a top class midfielder or two in the summer. Job done.

But he's like 33 years old?!

Still a better player than Poulsen will ever be, though.

I find you all evil with Poulsen.

I remember him with the Sevilla side who won UEFA and supercup and he was a real beast in his prime, not far from VB level (the two had the same ability to steal a ball and deliver an instant excellent counter attack pass in the same move ; in addition to their destroyer skills).

Ok he now look 3 times older than VB, seeming to have taken a year for every week on Juventus bench, but he wasn't like that all his carreer.

ps : back on topic, as Dexter say VB isn't declining, and if Kenny really want him, I'll try to forget how much I hate this player and welcome his recruitment. But I still think it would be a bad sign from owners if they prefer to put 2,5 millions on a 33yr old than 8 or 10 on a promising 21 or 25, there were far too much "quick fixes" in recent years, and I was hoping to see the end of this politic.

The reason I can see for this transfer is our midfield is clearly lacking bite and has been bullied in way to many matches, he could do a job for the rest of the season and maybe next season to sure up us defo not getting relegated.

I could handle a midfield of himself and Meireles think there is good balance there.

Although, has been rightly pointed out, he is one dirty fooker, it could be a good short team signing.  That would probably mean shipping out Poulson and I've not heard any stories about him moving since Roy left.  So at present, it's probably a no go, unless we're going to play him at CB!!

      Also with Konchesky. ;)

Two very bad signings which are not only wasting the money but also the potential of youngsters coming through the ranks. And the fact that the manager who signed them is gone kinda makes me think all he wanted to do was make us become an average side!

Anywasy, on topic, well, I think Van Bommel can do a job in midfield because he is that kind of 'tough' player we've been lacking. Shame he's already 33 because he could do a job for us.

No, Konchesky was always under average, Poulsen was good but declined early for unknown reasons. For me the Poulsen transfert was more in the Joe Cole category, a bet on a player who would have been good if he could retrieve his best level, but failed to.

      Anyway...

He had lost his legs at Juventus and was clear for any scout that had bothered to scout him. Makes me think we bought Poulsen blind on Hodgson say so

Are Spurs worried about us? Every player we're linked with they hop onto.

Nah, they are just copying Manchester Uniteds scouting policy... follow us round the world then bid more.

The tides turning, as soon as whisky nose fades away (asap) they'll find themselves on a slope downwards, moaning arse will get the job but won't be given the funds he's had before, revenue will fall, their owners will fail and the glory hunters will start to realise that payin £100 to travel from surrey to watch them get beat again at home is too much.

can we do a straight swap for poulson? i'd take him for his organisational skills as well as tackling but paying 2.5m for a 34 year old? sounds a bit nuts

I like him. Very good player. If it's a stop gap kind of thing, I'd go for it but depends how much wages he wants.

Holds a midfield together, really gets a team fighting.

      I agree 100%.

People probably thought Gary Mac was a funny signing so who knows we need a bit of steel and composure in the middle of the park.
If he is free or on loan good be a good 6 months deal.

I'm not a big fan of loan signing but we need a few quality players for the rest of the season at least.

Van Bommel will give us something we lack and that's a tough presence in midfield and he is also a very good footballer as well.

If someone would take Poulsen on loan to even out the wages it would make even more sense.

A short term fix until the Summer, where hopefully we'll get a substantial amount to strengthen our pathetic midfield. We need some bollocks in that midfield, too many faggots.
