He is 33 years old, but he did just play in the World Cup final and on a 6 month contract, he could be a good signing -

Would you feel more confident with Spearing or van Bommel as our DCM? Of course there is always Poulsen...?

Harsh but fair Hardcore. We need an enforcer. M'Vila would be a great summer signing.

vB would be good on loan to us but we have a couple of others - Poulsen, Spearing, Meireles, Lucas - that we need to deal with. pair vB with Lucas? or put him behind Lucas and Raul? too many players not enough certain starters in CM.

big bayern and van bommel fan but first let's get lukaku and suarez

Could give some grit to the midfield in away games,we  have needed someone to grab games by the scruff of the neck since Mascha went.Look at the options, Poulsen not a chance with that pace.Raul not his job to be fair.Lucas, again limited in that position although i think he has got a lot better.Loan would do for me.

Mark van Bommel is set to close the door on a move to Liverpool by signing for Wolfsburg. The Bayern Munich midfielder is out of contract in the summer and can leave now for a relatively small fee. Liverpool were keen on the Holland international but hoped to sign him on a free and have other more pressing targets who represent better value for money. Van not the man for Liverpool

Van Bommel is staying in the Bundesliga Tottenham and Manchester City have been linked, but the 33-year-old's hopes of securing a lucrative two-and-a-half-year contract have put off suitors. Wolfsburg's persistence appears to have paid off and it is thought they have persuaded Van Bommel to stay in the Bundesliga and sign an 18-month deal with the under-performing side. Beleaguered boss Steve McClaren has made it clear he wants reinforcements during the January transfer window and World Cup finalist Van Bommel is admired as much for his leadership qualities as his tough-tackling style. Meanwhile, McClaren's future has again been brought into question amid claims that Martin Jol has been discreetly talking to the club about the manager's post

Wolfsburg considered McClaren's post before Christmas but decided to publicly back the former England boss despite crashing out of the German Cup and slipping towards the relegation zone in the Bundesliga.

Off to Milan or staying at Bayern. He signed a contract with Milan but now suddenly Bayern want him to stay, while they already signed Gustavo too.

AC Milan sign Mark Van Bommel from Bayern Munich

Netherlands captain Mark van Bommel has left Bayern Munich to join AC Milan on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old midfielder asked to be released from his contract at Bayern after being sidelined by coach Louis van Gaal.

Dutchman Van Bommel, who has played 66 times for his country, said in a statement: "I am leaving FC Bayern with a heavy heart but with head held high."

Van Bommel's contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

Milan are top of Serie A and Bayern are fourth in the Bundesliga but Van Bommel leaves Germany with nothing but praise for the supporters of his former club.

"I had four and a half wonderful and successful years at Bayern and would like to express my gratitude to the club and the fans," he stated.

"FC Bayern will always have a place in my heart."

Van Bommel began his career in Dutch football, where he had spells with Fortuna Sittard and PSV Eindhoven.

Frank Rijkaard then took him to Barcelona and he played in the Barca team that defeated Arsenal in the 2006 Champions League final.

Van Bommel joined Bayern that summer and was voted player of the year in his first season.

He won two German championships at Bayern and succeeded Oliver Kahn as club captain.

Van Bommel became the first non-German to be given the captain's armband at Bayern and led the club to last season's Champions League final.

However, he lost his place in the starting line-up this term under coach Louis Van Gaal and asked for his contract to be terminated early.
