      Irwin trains with SPL side
      21st Jan 2011 - Latest News

Academy graduate Steven Irwin is spending the week training with Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen.

The versatile 20-year-old has impressed at youth and reserve level without making the step up to first-team football.

He is out of contract at the end of the season.

No doubt he is off in the summer then.
      Shame it's on a free

Wasn't sure how I felt about this when I heard about it this morning mate.

Seems a shame to let him go but he's 20 now and I'm not sure he's even been on the bench so he's unlikey to break in now.

Shame that it's looking like he'll leave, always rated him myself, a real hard worker too.

Quite sad about this, I've always thought he had what it takes to make it, I've enjoyed watching him in the ressies. Good luck to the lad though.

      Seems he's back at Anfield.

      Irwin returns to Liverpool

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown is still in pursuit of a midfielder after deciding against a loan move for Liverpool’s Steven Irwin.

The 20-year-old spent four days training with the Dons this week after being sent north by Anfield manager Kenny Dalglish.

The youngster impressed but he is not what Brown is looking for as he bids to bolster his squad for the remainder of the SPL season.

The manager said: "Irwin is a good player and, although he might be back up at some stage, he is not one we will be taking on just now. He did well and Kenny Dalglish speaks highly of him but he duplicates what we have already. We need a different kind of midfield player."

I actually thought he could do a decent job for us, works hard and has actually impressed me this season.

Surely we should be looking to sell for a 300K or something like that?

I always liked him.  He's a versatile player who always tried so hard.  It's a shame he couldn't make the grade.  Wish him the best of luck!

Me too, why oh why....I actually thought he'd make the grade in top class football, always seemed to try hard, maybe he tried too hard  :-\ I wish him all the best anyway.

He played in virtually every position for us as well. Didn't care where he was played, always happy to do a job.

All the best to him and hope he finds another club soon.
