The inflection & context affect the meaning a lot and that probably is a lot harder to infer over a forum.  Don't really have a problem with swearing in general, but time & place of course, wouldn't dare drop the c-bomb during sunday dinner at my nan's place.

A few colourful metaphors are a boon in the right time & place though, like when a F***ing w**ker cuts you up just before a junction.

It's possibly a regional thing too  :confused-smiley-013: I remember a few years ago I saw someone do something that was totally uncalled for and I turned around and said (rather innocently) that's a cu*ts trick. Well this person who was next to me (she was from Wales) , who I got on with quite well, went ape sh*t and reported me to my manager. But to me it was just an aptly descriptive word.
I'm from Wales (also female) and I'll tell you now I'm a right C**t for using the word c**t and the amount of people that go mental is unbelievable  :o So to make it a bit easier for them to take I change it to C*nty for some reason they don't seem to mind that!  :f_doh:  :f_whistle:

I think is just a generalized, regional term.  Here in the US, as "AZ" said. If you call a dude a "c**t", unless its a really good friend, your going to be throwing knuckles. No doubt.

But I heard that guys in the UK dont rag on each others Mom.  Here in the US I can tell some dude, how great his mom was in bed, and its more of a Joke Insult only. Its just sociological differences.  But If someone with an English accent called me a "c**t"...I would know its not personal and its just a joke. We also use "Douchebag"....which is American.

I must admit I'm quite bad for swearing, especially the word c**t. But I blame being Scottish, especially in Glasgow the word c**t is used to mean a person.

"Some c**t just asked me what time the bus is coming!" but that doesn't mean that you necessarily think that person is infact a c**t in a bad way.

      Classic example
Rangers fan tells BBC North West Tonight he hopes "every c**t will get along wi' each other"

Thats great...."Douchebag" is one of the funniest knocks ever.  I love it.

It's also good to know that all over the world "Mothers" are open to extreme ridicule.   So, hows your Mom....and my kids?

There's a fair few over here who still find the word c**t offensive. It does tend to be girls than fellas who are offended by it. Although a girl saying it is a F***ing horrible sound.

In Liverpool most people will use it in everyday speech. "I've had a c**t of a day in work" or "the taxi driver was being a c**t today" for example. It's just one of those words that we use. But Scousers, and especially meself, tend to use most swear words anyway. It's more of a natural thing with me where I swear without knowing it - not turrets either. I don't think about using the word c**t, it just comes out naturally.

I love the way there's actually some debate going in the Arkles!

For me, calling someone "ya soft c**t" is the same as calling someone "soft lad". But "ya soft c**t" has more comedy to it. So it gets used more often.

Failing all that, if you don't understand. Just say bellend.

c**t is probably one of the least 'accepted' swear words used. Like, some people wouldn't get offended by the word F**k or sh*t but say c**t and they'll be all over you. I was working with a woman a little while ago who as reading the paper back when these stories about Peter Crouch sleeping around came out, she called him a n*b and I absent mindedly said "yeah, what a c**t". Of course my lady colleague was highly offended and I think she thought worse of me from that day forth. :D Now to put that in context she isn't exactly an airy fairy type, we both work as contractors and a fair bit of swearing is used on the job as it is, but c**t was just not acceptable!

I myself don't really give a damn, I couldn't care less what people say, they're just words. As long as you aren't calling me a c**t then it's sound!

Bellend is a sh*t word though Kenny. It always sound like a ten year old when I hear it.

Divvy is a much better word ;)

I particularly like 'shithouse' as in, "come ere ya shithouse". It really doesn't mean anything, I mean what are you calling them? A house of sh*t?

Shithouse is a boss word. It's a word where it can be used as every day reference to the bog as well thogh, so sometimes it's not used as a offensive term.
