Di Natale is a focal point because he's a better finisher but the team is built literally around Sanchez. Look at how many touches he has. He's everything to them. Take him out and their team completely changes. Yes it's down to his talent but it's also down to the "Gerrard" factor of when you build a team around a player. Gerrard also played everywhere for us but we were still a team built around him.

Udinese did not build their team around Sanchez.  He has only been there for 3 seasons.  Rather, they have adapted their style to best utilize Sanchez because he is undoubtedly their best player, and their only world class player.  They want to get him on the ball as much as possible, so they switched things around.

Over the last 6 or 7 seasons, the team has been built around Di Natale.  He has been their best player in recent times, until the recent emergence of Sanchez.

In that case building around is a bad choice of words but you know what I mean. They have changed their style to incorporate him and play around him, not build around him. Same difference.

That sounds like every club with a play maker though, TLKS. Di Natale is the focal point, with the club built around him, and that shows with how many goals he gets.

If it were built around Sanchez, he'd be a poor player to only get 8 goals and 12 assists when a whole team is playing for him and they still made the CL.

I'd be far happier if we got Sanchez than Aguero, for example. However I think both rumours threads are pointless and we won't get any of them. We're just using those threads to discuss football ;D

That's like saying Modric has been a poor player for Spurs.

And Spurs aren't built around Modric, either. Which would only help me communicate my point? Just because he is a play maker, doesn't mean things are built around him.

Di Natale is the focal point, the strategy is to get it to him in good positions.

You could say that of any targetman. And it's pretty obvious that Modric determines how Spurs play so when he plays the team play around him. It's also no coincidence their football improved massively when he came to the club.

So much so, he plays left wing...

Target man doesn't necessarily equal tall, powerful striker. You could also have a target man who's primarily fed passes to the feet.

      Report: Sanchez-Barcelona deal

      Sunday 3 July, 2011

It’s reported Alexis Sanchez is on the verge of joining Barcelona after a €37m deal was struck with Udinese.

The player made it public this week that he would reject Manchester City’s more favourable economic terms, as he is determined to join the Blaugrana.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barça have agreed a transfer fee of €26m plus €11m in performance-related bonuses.

There was a meeting in Formentera on Saturday between Udinese patron Gino Pozzo and Barcelona Vice-President Josep Maria Bertomeu.

Spanish media suggest only details now separate El Nino Maravilla from the Nou Camp.

However, in Italy there are rumours that Udinese could ask for an adjustment to that proposal, cutting down some of the bonuses to provide a stronger cash sum up front.

After all, Manchester City had offered €40m for the player last week.

Sanchez is currently on international duty with Chile in the Copa America.
