More to the point how can Brazil now block our guys from playing against Leeds because they weren’t released if they are saying the Argentinians shouldn’t have been there?

Didn’t think the Premier League did block them, it was a decision taken by the relevant clubs as to whether they allowed players to go but then had to accept they wouldn’t be playing for a couple of weeks upon return?

They can’t so wouldn’t give it a thought.

Yes, I am. 100% not happening. Barring any injuries/illness, I am completely certain Alisson, Fab and whoever else wasn’t released, be it a Liverpool player or not, will be playing this weekend.

Gavin Bazunu got MOTM for Ireland vs Serbia last night, again playing really well in a limited team, but a team which tries to play Pep style, building out from the back, so he gets to show quality with ball at feet and making saves. On loan at Portsmouth from Man City, kid is only 19, but looks a wonderful keeper already. Keeping Kelleher out of the Ireland first XI. Couldn't see Citeh letting him go, but looks a real talent for his age.

Only 19 he's a superb keeper for his age. Can't see City holding on to him with Ederson there he's too good not to be starting for a top tier club.

Am sure they'll get interest in him, good enough to play PL already

      Yes.

We had something similar a few years ago with Cameroon trying to have Matip banned because he retired from international football. If Fifa go through with any ban then they run the risk of even more players not being released next time. Whilst you are supposed to release players for competative games, you don't for friendly matches. Clubs will always win in a club vs country row because the worst that can happen is Fifa invoke a 5 day ban, players miss at most 2 games. If clubs don't release a player for a tournament, then it can leave that national team up the creek. Also the fact that Brazil haven't put forward a ban for Richarlison based on him having played the Olympics actually goes against them because it's not a Fifa tournament, clubs are under no obligation to release players for it, it just shows an inconsistency in Brazil's case. Along with the fact it was all because of Covid, Fifa wont risk the backlash, especially when Brazil had authoroties going onto the pitch to try and deport Argentine players for not isolating, so they can't have it both ways, they can't be trying to have opposition players removed because of Covid but then trying to have others banned because they didn't travel due to Covid.

It was a competitive game and the Matip situation  very different as that had nothing to do with the club and was the players decision .

      I didn’t say it wasn’t a competitive game.

I mentioned Matip as an example of a national team trying to ban a player in the past and I know it was a different situation, that’s why I said what the situation was.

I know you’re itching to say “I told you so” but unfortunately, nothing is confirmed yet, but I have no doubts that if it happens then you will be there at the ready.

Of course not, we all know as much as each other. I’m just looking at it rationally and would like to think common sense is going to be applied.
