      Keeping the Keeper
      Feb 04, 2011 08:43:42 am
Well i think we can all feel very optimistic now, and i for one feel good for the first time in a LONG time about LFC and where we are going .

Someone posted on the Torres transfer that he felt like him leaving was "Like my girlfriend cheating on me" and i have to say it was quite like that not seeing him on the pitch on Wed.

Not to try and be downbeat, i would be more gutted if Pepe was to leave in the summer, and a small part of me would love to be re-convinced that he will stay.

What do you guys think? with the spanish armada now gone (arbeloa, riera, alonso, and now Torres) what do you think Pepe is thinking?

I pray that he stays, just thought i would get some opinions.

I'm feeling the same, somehow got the feeling he might be looking at his options now his mate has left.
Could imagine Barca coming in with a bid in the summer.

Nah Barcelona won't come in for him they have Victor Valdes.

Real Madrid won't as they have Cassilas.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wenger tried a cheeky bid.

Can't see it myself, think they'll be happy with Valdes.

Interesting thing for me would be who we start looking at as a replacement if he did decide to leave.

For me it would be Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris.

But then again let's cross this bridge when we have to!

i can't see him leaving, he's always said he loves it here and wouldnt want to leave. i know torres said that, but pepe is less petulant and isnt as childish as torres.

Didn't he sign a 6 year deal last season? So if he does decide to go, were quids in anyway.

Understand the opening post of this topic because its much more difficult to replace a world class keeper than a world class striker in my opinion, Plenty of strikers out there who can score goals, not many world class goalies though.

Hope to god he stays, think he will wait and see what happens in the summer, if were not signing players then he will probably ask to go.

Would take Shay Given, not in the same league but he would be ideal for a tempory replacement if Pepe does decide to move on.

Just my opinion, but I think Given is finished as a top class keeper now, he can't even get in the City team and if we want to be challenging soon I want a top class keeper, not manc cast offs!!

I find it difficult to believe players' sense of loyalty now.

However, I feel that Pepe may be different from Torres himself. Reina has been here a couple of seasons longer than Torres and he is probably closest to the fans than most of the players we have. He did say he was very looking forward to the future last month, didn't he?

Really wished he'd stay here till he retires!

Agree Huyton but if you look at other top teams who have lost there great keepers for what ever reason, and in some cases went a good few seasons without a proper replacement, I think shay would do a job for a couple of years if Pepe does decide to go.

Hopefully Pepe will be here for a very long time though!

Im just hoping he doesnt feel alone, that the team spirit is great and he has enough friends around him to want to stay.

Or nano doesnt try and convince him to leave....  :(

Cant see Pepe leaving. Last of the spanish players, but hes been here for 5 years now. The revolution has begun and he is the start of the backbone.

I can understand the scepticism after the departure of that lying b***ard but he is gone now. No way will Jose leave.

Have some of you been asleep for the past week?

Torres 'armband proved he was a red' goes to Chelsea.

Carroll 'want to stay at Newcastle forever ' goes to Liverpool.

I love Pepe as much as the next supporter but for people to suggest he won't leave is utter craziness.  Especially seeing as a lot of the rumours we heard over the past 6 months now appear to have a strong element of truth.

I don't want him to go.  I still think, even though he has made a few more mistakes this year, that he is a top shot stopper.  But I won't be saying he absolutely won't go because loyalty is something only supporters display. Not players.

I believe that Pepe could be the future of this club, synonymous with the club just like Kahn was with Bayern for so many years. He should really be promised the captain's armband when Stevie does hang up the boots. That may be an incentive to stay, as will Kenny getting the manager role full time. A real statement of intent just like the January transfer window was.

I think Pepe will leave in the summer. As long as we get a good deal and he moves abroad I'll be happy. Think Given could be a cheap replacement.

I don't think he will leave at all, why would he. The only club he could go to is Arsenal and we will be stronger next season

Barca could come calling again. Keeper probably is their weakest area, if any, and Valdes is still a good keeper.

I don't think he will go, not because "Hes more loyal than Torres", we've seen the loyalty of a footballer enough in the last 6 months, it doesn't exsist, all that exsists is personel gain.

I simply don't think he will go because there is nowere to go, he won't go to United and I don't think Arsenal have the balls to make a bid. All the other top clubs already have established keepers.
