      Best 'Pop' tune ever. ...?
      Feb 12, 2011 10:26:21 am
It's a much maligned side of the music industry; certainly by music 'snobs' (myself included) but when you think about it we can all remember where we were and what we were doing as defined by the 'pop' tunes of a specific era.

I got to thinking (off the back of another thread) what I would list as my favourite 'pop' track and here it is: (play it loud)  ;D

Common People - Pulp...Move Maker .wmv

      . ...and a must see version - http://www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2008/william-shatner-common-people-p1.php

Any challengers for the crown?  ;D

Shatner's album is classic comic gold. Anything by The Police would be Pop at it's best for me

Staying with Pulp, but its got to be this one for me, because of the lyrics and how much I related to the song when it was out.

I do love both versions of that, bad boy.

I have no idea what I'd call my favorite, but whatever it is would probably be able to share time in the Guilty Pleasures thread.

I think it's hard to define the best 'pop' song as some artists who are not neccesarily pop groups or bands have written some of the best pop songs of all time.

Bad Boy's pick of Common People is an example of this I think as I wouldn't consider Pulp a 'pop' band but Common people is a classic pop song, if you get what I'm meaning!

Anyway. One of my all time favourites is this

      Blondie - Atomic [7" Version]

One of the best songs of all time in my opinion.

When we're talking GREAT pop we've got to be talking a-ha. So many incredible tunes to choose from as well as the obvious Take On Me! Check them out!

Hell yeah - Joe Jackson is amazing, Shatner's giving it rock all and the band are pumping - it just works. The measure of a great tune that; even with Shatner taking a lead it's still F***ing great.  ;D

I hear you srs. Blondie was (and still is) one of my all-time favourite bands - 'Parallel Lines' would be in my top ten favourite albums. To be honest; I made my final choice between 'Sunday Girl' and 'Common People' with the latter shading it simply because the impact is has with more people. Every git I know sings, dances along and has a story to tell about the tune. ...

This is my guilty pleasure song. I'm not 'supposed' to like it, but it gets me in a good mood anytime I hear it.

Every Pop song plays second fiddle to Thriller, it is the definition of Pop music now and forever, and this is coming from someone who isn't even a big Michael fan.

For me though hands down the 'Pop' song that describes my childhood and driving in the car with my father was Joe Cocker's rendition of With a Little Help from My Friends. I realize this isn't very poppy but this is as Pop as I get with my musical selection.

Joe poured every ounce of his being into his performances and my Dad and I would belt this song out driving home from school or running errands for my Mother.

      Enjoy
