AC Sparta Prague (Czech: AC Sparta Praha) is a Czech football club based in Prague. It is the most successful club in the Czech Republic and one of the most successful in Central Europe, having reached the semifinals of the European Cup in 1992. Sparta was long the main source for the Czech Republic national football team, however lately this has ceased to be the case, as the best Czech players almost all now play in higher-paying foreign leagues. There are a number of outstanding players who have played for the Sparta over the years. Sparta play at Prague's Generali Arena (also known as Letná Stadium).

Liverpool resume Europa League duties on Thursday night when they travel to the Czech Republic to face Sparta Prague.

The two teams will contest the first leg of the round of 32 tie at the Stadion Letna.

Sparta finished second in Europa League Group F behind CSKA Moscow. Striker Wilfried Bony has five goals from six appearances in the tournament.

      Game is live on ITV4

Huge game for us. Kenny's 1st European game for ages.

Stevie should be back after the disapointment of the Wigan result.

With Suarez cup tied, and Carroll injured, I guess Kuyt is the man and maybe Ngog too.

I've Googled this little snippet of our opponents
;On February 10th 2011, Sparta were fined regarding a match against Zenit St Petersburg on February 9th, Sparta withdrew 3 players, Tomas Pekhart, Vaclav Kadlec and Manuel Pamic from international duty citing injury and illness. However the three players all played for Sparta against Zenit St Petersburg wearing shirts of other players including Pekhart, who is white, as black Cameroonian midfielder Martin Abena.

Better look out for Torres disguised as a modern day Pele  :f_tongueincheek:

I've gone for a 2-1 away win by the way !

Looks like a pretty good Europa atmosphere at their stadium, small as it is.

Here's a long blog post about a reporter's visit there for a league game. A little club history too.

Great occasion for the King this!

With us having no game on the weekend I think he will play a very strong team with hopefully Stevie and Agger coming back in. A decent result out there and maybe play a few of the younger lads for the 2nd leg.

How exciting are the CL knockout rounds compared to the Europa League Knockout rounds which we're in ?
Surely the excitement comes from watching your own team in a knockout competition regardless of its title !

It is very important to get a good result here so we can take it a little easy in the return leg at Anfield.

Good sentiments no doubt, but in reality, nothing beats champions league nights with Liverpool.

Anyway, time to play the kids and fringe players this.

One for J. Cole to come in and find some form and fitness.

Think these have Thomas Repka at CB. He's the only player I have seen play of theirs.

      Solid CB for West Ham.

Thats what I was implying, we do miss the CL BUT we're in the EL now, they used to be called European nights when I was younger regardless of which competition it was !
Teams only want to be in the CL for the money now , the Majority of competing teams don't deserve to be in it especially as they've won nothing.

I would like to play a 352, clearly 442 doesn't work for us. Tried and failed enough times to realize it won't work.

I would expect Cole and Ngog to play in this one, and Poulsen to get a start. Kenny said Wilson would get games at the back in the Europa League. Maybe Dani might get a run out? :)

                           Reina
      Kelly       Greek      Agger       Wilson
                          Poulsen
                   Lucas      Stevie
                          Cole
                   Ngog       Pacheco

Pacheco + Ngog linked up pretty well when playing in the reserves with each other so they may carry that understanding with them, and we all know of Kenny's interest in the academy.

A welcome break from the Premier League, I reckon we should give this competition our best shot, to try and win some silverware in what has been a difficult season to say the least. With no weekend fixture I think Kenny will pick a strong side and make the second leg at Anfield a formality.

that Vaclav Kadlec lad is a lad full potential on FM, if that is anything to go by. Apparently we were linked with him too.

They better not try any of them switching players craic on us anyways.
