He's acquainted himself very well into the side. Never looks out of place, doesn't shirk away from a challenge and like Lee Dixon said his positioning is excellent.

Now that we'll be playing an opponent who we'll have to take the game to moreso this weekend, I'm hoping to see some more attacking impetus from the lad. I've been very, very impressed with him so far.

For those who have watched him in the ressies, how is he in the attacking half? He seems to have a good short passing game judging by the past two matches.

He's not too bad mate.  Seems to get forward enough but always gets back in defence quickly.

He seems a little timid when he's got the ball with no one around him, but man I like what I see!  Great job!!!!

He actually likes to get forward, but I can understand why he hasn't got forward much especially against Arsenal because they would counter attack with pace and leave him a bit exposed. He's just learning his trade, we shouldn't rush him.

Agree, I was just curious how he plays in the attacking half since we've played top opposition for his two games. Can't wait to see what he does against a team who will pack it in a bit more against us.

Quick question. I was looking on the offal's Arsenal match report and I noticed (on the player's names list) that it called him 'Flanagan Old'. Any ideas why?

Of the 2 new boys I like this lad the most.  He seems very composed for an 18 year old, and looks like he reads the game very well.  He appears to be a natural footballer and is certainly not intimidated.

I think it is much harder for a young player to play at the top level when he is a defender, as opposed to playing further up the pitch but he looks as if he is meant to be there, and hopefully goes from strength to strength.

His ball in to the box for Maxi's goal was excellent too. Just floated in to the box.

Thought Kenny dealt with him really well.

Started on the right against Jonas and then earned a yellow card. Switched him to the left for the 2nd half and instead of taking him off due to the fact that a mistake could have him sent off, Kenny keeps him on and I believe to learn (playing on with a yellow card).

A harsh but good lesson for him today, he got caught out a fair bit. Young, Albrighton & Downing all had the measure of him today.  Will say he looked calm and collected whilst covering for Carragher tough

Probably got caught off a couple of times but have been impressed with him defensively in his appearances.

Also supports going forward but at this age, he's still learning.

What a couple of months it's been for Flanno. He has been truly outstanding. A shining beacon of Liverpool's future prospects.

Overall well in Flanno I though he has done extremely well since his promotion, keep up the hard work in summer and could go on to become an important and regular figure at the club.

Would not mind seeing him put on a bit of size too.

Tough day at the office for the lad, got skinned a few times but also put in some timely challenges and was still looking to get forward. Like Dado said put on a bit of weight and come back next season and fight for your spot with Glen J and Martin Kelly.

A very bright prospect for the future.

      Flanagan ruled out for England
      28th May 2011 - Latest News

John Flanagan has withdrawn from England's U19 squad for the forthcoming European Championship qualifiers.

The 18-year-old full-back, who made a solid impression in the Reds first-team during the final stages of the season, has returned home after picking up a calf injury.

Flanagan told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I'm obviously disappointed, particularly as I've not played for England before. But I won't let it overshadow what has been a very good season for me and I'll be raring to go when pre-season gets underway."

Liverpool still have six players in the Three Lions' squad for the elite qualifying matches against Montenegro, Spain and host nation Switzerland that will run from May 31- June 5.

I was with the lad yesterday watching the CL game, he was cheering along with us when Barca scored, he is a very nice unaffected kid.
He was telling me that he has a 2 cm tire in his right calf, and is a bit gutted he won't now pick up his first cap.
F**kin good pool player though, hammered me.
