The "Afellay to Liverpool" story was already published by "Voetbal International" in Holland and "Corriere dello Sport" in Italy ... I am not sure about the crap sources like Caughtoffside, since I don't follow them ...

How often do papers pick up stories from disreputable sources like talkaloadofbull.com, caught-offside and the Daily Mail and print them?

Didn't L'Equipe run the story that we were getting Cissokho...

Kind of a contradiction that, if the story had already been published by "Voetbal International" in Holland and "Corriere dello Sport", then how would you know it had already been published before crap sources like caughtoffside if you don't follow them ?

Or maybe you don't know and you are just assuming they published it first ?

      Anyway heres the link.

As some of our Dutch posters have confirmed, "Voetbal International" is a respected football magazine and don't re-publish stories from crap sources ... If they are reporting that there is interest from LFC in Afellay, it is very likely that it is true ...

As for the "Caughtoffside", they publish hundreds of crap stories (like the one in the opening post of this thread, 6 months ago), but none of them are true ...

      Wrong again ...

First post in this thread I assume.

Firs post in the thread goes way back to February JD, I was just talking about the recent link to Afellay.

Not wrong at all, like I said I was referring to the latest links to him.

He's been a long time on the radar so he's an easy target to fill column inches. Can believe we've made an enquiry but with him previously saying he's happy at Barca I don't see this gathering any pace, sounds like rehashed crap from the media to me.

I think that Afellay is in a pretty weird situation at the moment ... Ideally, he would want to stay there, and probably Barca would also want to keep him as a squad option, especially since they've got him on the cheap and he is on reasonable wages ... Still, with players like Messi, Iniesta, Villa, Sanchez, Fabregas and Pedro on their team, they can't guarantee him any playing time, and if everyone is fit, not even a place on the bench ...

Ibrahimovic and Eto'o are technically Barca rejects (even Reina could count as one), would you not have them in our squad. :-\

Possibly yes,but not this one, coming from Barca does not mean,Premiership proven.Of course gamble would depend on fee.For me no we have more proven players in our squad.

Since when did a player coming from Spain equate to 'premiership proven' anyway?

Afellay is a superb talent but doesn't fit at Barca. I think he'd fit very well here and would be delighted to finally have him in our side after calling to sign him about 3 seasons ago.

If the fella had any ambition he would leave Barca, surely he must want to play games, and with the Euros coming up soon he is going to need to play to make the squad I would have thought.

Which is where we come in ;)

Juventus want a loan only... Well of course they do.

This player will be a real coup if we buy him for 5-10m. I think he will prove to be a better player than Mata in months to come IF we sign him.

This one works for me - we've got a ball playing winger in Downing and this guy is really direct

Fight for his place in Barcelona? Good luck son, but you won't get a game there with Messi, Pedro and Sanchez as competition. I doubt it will happen but as I said I'd be overjoyed if this happened because I think we need another flashy player or two.

Perhaps could have been clearer - meant Downing can move the ball and get delivery in whereas this guy like to really go at people. That said - the way Downing has started....
