      Paul Robinson (Blackburn Rovers)
      Mar 03, 2011 08:27:57 am
We are being linked to him as a replacement for Reina in the telegraph he is a decent keeper should we not be targetting a much better keeper if he goes though. I think the signing of robinson would show adistinct lack of ambition

      Agreed corbally

Good keeper but if we want to be pushing for the title next season we don't need a good keeper, we need a great one.

Lloris is the best replacement I can think of if Reina does go.

How about Salvatore Sirigu as a replacement? Young and showing good promise.
Other than him the obvious choice would be Lloris.

that would be a massive step in the wrong direction bringing paul robinson in as the number 1.
we have to do everything to ensure pepe is here for the long run as top class keepers are hard to come by. look at arsenal, they still haven't managed to replace seaman.

Reina can leave Anfield if a rival club triggers a £20 million escape clause in the Spaniard’s contract and the 28 year-old admitted recently that he is keen to play for a club capable of “fighting for titles” after winning just one trophy – the FA Cup – since leaving Villarreal for Liverpool in 2005.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said last month that he expected Reina to remain at the club in the long term, but it is understood that former England goalkeeper Robinson is being considered as a possible replacement should Reina be tempted away from Merseyside at the end of the season.

Edwin van der Sar’s planned retirement at United this summer has raised the alarming prospect of Liverpool losing Reina to their bitter rivals, who visit Anfield this Sunday, but United are also watching Schalke’s Manuel Neuer, Holland keeper Maarten Stekelenburg and Spanish youngster David de Gea.

Stekelenburg and Neuer are also on Liverpool’s radar, along with Lyon’s Hugo Lloris, but Robinson’s resurgence at Blackburn since his £3.5 million arrival from Tottenham in 2008 has been noted at Anfield.

The 31 year-old is viewed as a risk-free option having performed at the highest level with England, and he can also point to Champions League experience during his formative years with Leeds United.

Would be lowering the quality of the squad that would.

Robinson had a lot of promise, however much of it is unfulfilled.

I think we should be looking at rescuing Given from City. We could get 2/3 good years out of him IMO. Similar to what United have got out of VDS.

Would not be interested in Lloris, he is overrated IMO, quite dodgy at times from crosses.  Neuer and Stekelenberg are both very good goal keepers. Especially Neuer.

I don't rate Robinson as a keeper and would be a massive drop in quality if he were to replace Pepe.

If Reina were to leave there are much better keepers out there who would be interested in playing for us.

      No thanks.

Not good enough for a club who's owners are targeting winning the Premier League by 2013.

He won't be Liverpool's keeper next season. I'm pretty damn sure of that.

If Reina does leave I can see a world class replacement coming in. Lloris is the best keeper around who isn't totally unrealistic. He was fantastic against us twice and would be a perfect replacement.

I still hope Pepe doesn't leave though.

I already explained my reasons why in the "Keeping the Keeper" thread...but in my humble opinion it would be stupid to go and buy Paul Robinson when we could quite easily get Shay Given.

Would Lloris settle straight away though? I mean he's a good shot-stopper but keepers in England get a lot more hassle from corners etc. than keepers in other leagues. Shay has seen it all and is wasted on the City bench!

The more I see of Lloris the more questionable his decision making becomes for me. He is a good shot stopper (the initial shot) but he does not command his box well. He reminds me of Carlo Cuddicini. One of the best around at a one off save, but dodgy from crosses in to the box, he comes and then goes back. Plus I have seen him a few times put his side in trouble by palming the ball back into the box, rather than tipping wide.

Akinfeev if the unthinkable happens.  I'm not convinced about Lloris and I'm a pretty big admirer of 3/4 of the OL squad.

get one of the two Germans Neur or Adler

De Gea recently turned 20 no?, very young for a keeper, be a risky move to bring him in, despite him showing some good promise

Don't think Adler would come here, he'll play CHL football next year with Leverkusen.
De Gea is a fantastic keeper and a terrific prospect, he'll be the world's best GK at some time in the future. It would take maybe 30M to get him.

Don't rate Robinson - too many clangers. It's not that he's not capable just that the clangers spread nervousness through the defence.

30million for a 20 year old keeper? Doubt it. Half that. Keepers don't go for big money, especially ones barely out of nappies.
