The Real Madrid youngster is one of the players reportedly set for a Santiago Bernabeu exit, with Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish one of the managers keen to snap up the 20-year-old.

Florentino Perez, president of Los Blancos, is set to offload seven players this summer in an effort to create transfer funds for Jose Mourinho, according to Spanish publication. Canales is one of those set for an exit, according to the report.

Liverpool were thought to be in the race to sign the player last summer, but Canales decided to stay in his homeland and moved from Racing Santander to Madrid for €4.5 million plus clauses.

However, opportunities have been limited in the Spanish capital, and despite the player's young years he's thought to have grown frustrated by a lack of opportunities.

Sport.co.uk claim the player is now available for a fee in the region of €12 million, with Liverpool stated as one of the teams interested in bringing the player to the Barclays Premier League.

Arsenal are also thought to be interested in the player, and the Gunners were also linked with a move back in the summer.

Arsene Wenger is known for getting the best out of young talent at the Emirates, and would be keen to add the talented attacking midfielder to his Arsenal ranks.

Fran Merida, Cesc Fabregas and Ignasi Miquel are three examples of young Spaniards who have moved to Arsenal at a young age, with success at some levels for the trio in north London.

Liverpool will fight for the talent though, and showed in January that they have transfer money to spend thanks to the investment of new owners NESV.

Dalglish has hinted that he will spend again at the end of the season, and Canales fits the bill of young, attacking talent set out by the club's new board. A summer bid could be in the offing.

Canales is a very talented player.

I F***ing love him.

He shouldn't have went to Madrid in the first place. Would be amazing if we would get him, though.

Couldn't understand him going to Real, it was a stupid move, to be honest it is ridiculous any young player going to Real or even Barc to be honest

That's nice one mate , I'd love to have any player who can play very good against awful teams. We can see C.Ronaldo always play best with small teams, who in our current squad can usually do that ? no one (I hope Suarez is exception), then we having serious problem cannot dominate the teams such as (with respected to them) Wigan, Blackpool, West Ham, Readings, etc and that cost us serious damage, at least in last decade.

I never watch him but heard people say he's prospect one. If he's good then I think we could try to sign him as it's good for some young Spaniard like Suso too.

Didn't realise we made a bid for him in January but go get him anyway Kenny.  While you're at it bring back Diarra too.

Madrid tell Dalglish - Come and get Canales

Real Madrid chiefs have encouraged current Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish to make an offer for talented Spanish midfielder Sergio Canales according to respected Spanish publication Sport.

Canales was one of the hottest prospects in European football on the back of his eye-catching displays for Racing Santander at the end of the last season, with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson allegedly making personal advances to lure the mercurial playmaker to Old Trafford, while Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger was also a keen admirer of the Spaniard’s talents.

Despite interest from the Premier League heavyweights Real Madrid eventually won the race to land the then 19-year-old prodigy.

This morning Sport reports that the 20-year-old former Racing Santander youth product rejected a move to Anfield during the January transfer window in order to fight for his first team place at the Bernabeu. However following discussions between manager Jose Mourinho and the Los Blancos hierarchy Canales is one of several players who will be cut by the special one this summer.

The report intimates that Liverpool are only willing to part with 6 million euros for the midfielder, who has failed to make an impact under Mourinho having been dubbed a future star while at Racing.

Mourinho could axe up to seven players including former Liverpool star Jerzy Dudek, Argentine centre-half Ezqequiel Garay, youngster Pedro Leon, as well as the midfield duo of Fernando Gago and Lassana Diarra.

I think it is going to take a bit more than 6 million euros.

Thought his decision to move to Real in the Summer was madness and it has proved to be, would take him and Diarra for £12 million

I see him staying in Spain just going to a mid-table team and establishing himself as a player again. I don't see Real will let him go permanently, will be a loan or maybe with a buy back option.

They can sell him to us and have a buy back option of £50m . That should suit Madrid cause they're used to stupid clauses like that in their league.

Should get him for around £8mn

Snap him up

Snap him up Kenny, Madrid are going to ruin his career if you don't. Him and Pacheco cleaned house at the U19's last summer and he's definately one of the best young talents in the world at the moment. I see him as a genuine successor to Gerrard, so getting his asap should be a priority.
