Gael Clichy (Arsenal)

Depends if the lad wants first team football, he ain't going to get it at City. If he does then it won't be long before Kolarov leaves (not suggesting we go for him - don't really rate him).

Why won't he get first team football? He's miles better then Kolarov and Bridge.

If that's the case i doubt we even made a bid. I doubt we would have reservations paying 7 million for a Premiership proven player in a position we are in desperate need of covering.

Seems to be the story of the summer so far.

If City sign Clichy, then that leaves Cissokho, Enrique, and Izaguirre as realistic targets.  Clichy seems to represent the best value in the market right now, but there are other fish in the sea...

In my opinion if we lose out on him to citeh it will be because they have offered him ridicolous wages that we would'nt be prepared to match.

If we lose out on Clichy then I have to say that I'm kinda worried. Clichy is easily worth every penny of 7m, and if we're going to lose out for the sake of 2m, then it feels like Parry is back on the boat again! To me it's these sorts of signings, or rather missing out on these signings, that have hindered us before (the names of all the ones that got away overflow in my mind :S). We really should be looking to pick these sorts of signings out whilst they're there. But to miss out on him for 7m, that would suck!

Gaël Clichy looks set to follow Cesc Fábregas out of Arsenal, with the left-back close to sealing a £7m move to Manchester City. In what will come as another blow to the Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, it is understood that the French defender will complete a move to Eastlands once he passes a medical and agrees personal terms.

The 25-year-old, with only a year left on his current contract, was also a target for Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.

The City manager, Roberto Mancini, targeted a new left-back having been unconvinced by Wayne Bridge and the £16m signing Aleksandar Kolarov, who failed to impress in his first season after joining from Lazio.

Yet another available player who fails to commit themselves to LFC,thats fine no worries because we dont want or need players who are only here for their own financial gain and potentially a starting berth, if its true that Citeh are in for him, just like Mata, Wickham, Young, Jones, and whoever else we have been linked to can't or wont come to Anfield then F**k 'em', we carry on and try and sign the players who will, Simples !!

I really am starting to dislike city, it ruins the game to have so much talent at one team when they can only field 11 players. Where ever they are I want to see players like Johnson, milner etc playing football in the prem week in week out, it is quite simply not just robbing other teams of talent but the whole of football. It is quite simply praying on players inflated egos as each one of them thinks I'm good enough to get a game and then they waste potentially fantastic careers sat on the sidelines. Come to lfc gael be part of something special and play every week and YNWA

I'd say he's not much of a better defender than Kolarov. Kolarov just likes to venture forward and gets caught sometimes out of position. Not a poor reader of the game, not a poor tackler, got good positioning when he's back in defence.

But since when was one good player in a position and good back up enough for City?

i was speaking to a guy that works for us who is an arsenal fan (poor bugger) he was saying all this situation with clichy, nasri etc is down to in fighting at the club, they wont sign new deals because they all share one agent, david deins son, david dein has been frozen out by the club.. i thought it was very strange a club would let two very good senior players run down to their last year but this is apparently the issue.

Joking aside, I think Clichy is twice the player and in a decent team would show that.

Now I'm not saying arsenal aren't a decent team, but they play such a high line with little or no protection for the back four that the defenders are always going to look like they are being caught out of position, when in fact it is the DM not doing his job of covering forward runs is at fault.

You can ask a FB to get up and down, and attack, but at the same time there has to be cover if he is going to bomb forwards all the time.

I wouldn't get your hopes up mate.

I think Man City's plan is starting to clear out big name players and replace them with solid performers or people who are genuinely trying to reignite their career.  They'll start be more responsible these days I think.
