Former LFC player Miki Roque retires from football

With sadness, it is unfortunate to announce that former Liverpool youth star Miki Roque is to retire from football to fight against cancer. He has found a tumor in the pelvis..

Liverpool Football Club was today saddened to hear news that former player Miki Roque has been diagnosed with cancer.

We would like to send our thoughts to Miki and his family after his current club Real Betis confirmed the 22-year-old would have to undergo surgery to remove a tumour in his pelvis.

Roque was on Liverpool's books between 2005 and 2009 and was part of our FA Youth Cup winning team in 2006.

He made just one substitute appearance for the first team in a Champions League clash with Galatasaray in December 2006.

Xabi Alonso was the player he replaced on the night - and the Spanish international today sent his own message of support via Twitter.

Ex Liverpool player Miki Roque, currently with Real Betis, has had to retire from football having being diagnosed with pelvic cancer.

He can be no more then 23 years of age. While its terrible news and sad he's had to retire lets hope it has been caught early enough and can be cured.

It's really sad to see someone of my age going through this kind of problems, having to retire from football and all.

But what really matters now is his life and I wish him all the luck and strenght to make a full recovery.

Absolutely tragic news for the lad, must be awful for him, let's hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Sorry for bringing this old thread back up, but there is a strong twitter rumour that Carles Puyol had paid for Roque's treatment and has been seen wearing a t-shirt with Miki's name on it during the cup celebrations.
