Fernando Gago (Real Madrid)

Liverpool are making moves to take Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago to Anfield.


The Argentina star does not figure in Jose Mourinho's plans and will be sold to the highest bidder in the summer.

His old club Boca Juniors and AC Milan are interested, but he has ruled out a return to his homeland.

Gago, 24, would love a crack at the Premier League, and the chance to play alongside Steven Gerrard and Raul Meireles.

Real have slapped a £10 million price tag on Gago, although Liverpool will not go above £8 million.

I really like him as a player but is in between what most people want - like Lucas. Not a purely defensive mid, not a playmaker. Don't see the point, though.

He is a lot like Lucas IMO. As Crouchy said he isn't a midfield destroyer, or a creative genius.

More of a neat and tidy sort of player. Can tackle, can pass. Keeps his game simple.

I'd rather see us go after one of the other names we've been linked with:  Matuidi, Mvila, Sissoko, or Banega.  Unless Madrid are willing to let him go for like 5 mil..... he could be a good backup to Lucas in that case.

I rate Banega highly but don't know how exactly he would fit in our team. He's not very composed defensively and is much more comfortable roaming forward and assisting the other players. So he would have to compete with Gerrard and Raul, and maybe (hopefully) Aquilani. Because from a defensive point of view he isn't much of an improvement on Lucas TBH.

I think that we have other priorities, such as an out-and-out DMF (mascha style) and a LB for example.

Ever Banega....there's a name that takes me back to FM 07! Remember him and Sherman Cardenas in my Liverpool team. Unfuckingstoppable that team was. With Kaka and Gerrard - it was the best midfield in history. Won everything in sight. Cardenas is a name that didn't develop in real life though... shame. He was unreal in that game....yeah unstoppable. Oh sorry guys! I digressed into FM nostalgia!

Anyhow - yeah just get Banega.

In my humble opinion width in midfield is what we need....Gago does not provide it. We could still take Aquilani back...then we've got Gerrard, Meireles, Cole, Lucas, Spearing and Shelvey. By all means dump Poulsen and get him...but we don't really need him do we??

I think we need a DMF that can put a pass. Gago can put a pass but is no DMF, so no I don't think we need him.

Absolutely. 10m for Gago is too much IMO, considering we got Raul for only 1m more or something. Banega would be a decent price i think, and much better.

I do like Lass, but his mentality pisses me off sometimes. He'll play very well, and then think he's the king and start playing however he wants.

On Gago, i didn't notice the 10m tag. No chance for that money. Banega will be at max 5m more.

I've said it too much anyways but my choice for a CDM is Etienne Capoue who is rated at £6.6m on Transfer Market's site.
