Liverpool target Jeffren admits interest in Premier League move

      Friday, June 24

Liverpool are in pole position to sign Barcelona forward Jeffren Suarez after he ruled out a move to Udinese.

Jeffren, 23, has failed to establish a regular first-team place at the Nou Camp and is keen to show he can compete at the highest level.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is reported to be interested in the Spanish Under-21 star as he looks to build a team who are capable of challenging for major silverware next season.

Udinese had been strongly linked with a move but the player's father, Efren, insists he will not play in Serie A and has opened the door for an English club to make their move.

Efren said: "Playing in Italy is not a good option for Jeffren. He has more attractive offers from Spain and England."

I wouldn't mind him as a squad player to be honest, but would he swap Barca's bench for ours?

I definitely wouldn't call it ''an awful injury record'' ... He's had some minor muscle injuries over the past 2 seasons, but was never on the sidelines more than a couple of weeks ...

He wouldn't be for me Mac, watched him against England and actually thought he was Spains least impressive player. Think he would struggle with the physical side of the Premiership

And yet you want Mata who's a similar size. Double standards or what.

But Mata is a far better player.

Liverpool to battle Fulham for Barca forward

      Published 23:59 25/06/11
      By Dave Kidd

Martin Jol is planning a bold move to bring £7million-rated Barcelona forward Jeffren to Fulham.

Jeffren, one of the stars of Spain’s progress to last night’s Euro Under-21 Championship final, is being offloaded by Barca this summer.

Jol wants to inject youth and pace into an ageing Fulham side and sees 23-year-old Jeffren as the ideal acquisition.

Yet the Dutchman knows he will face some serious rivals – Liverpool included.

Not sure any forward would come to LFC after we've spent nearly £60m on strikers in January

If he can play as a winger, a move makes sense, but if he prefers to play as a forward, he would be unlikely to come to us to play on the bench.  We will see :)

So we've gone from Hazard to Mata to Downing to possibly Jeffren.

Why buy a 23 year old prospect from Barca who seems nothing special when we already have a 20 year old prospect that their youth coach rated higher (Dani Pacheco)?

      I don't get it personally.

Because Jeffren is a left footed player that mostly plays on the right, and Pacheco is a right footed player that mostly plays on the left, or behind the striker ... In reality, they are very different players ...

      Jeffren rejects Sanchez switch

      Saturday 2 July, 2011

Jeffren has put a spanner in the works of Barcelona’s bid for Alexis Sanchez. “He does not want to join Udinese,” revealed his father.

Barça said this week they had made their “definitive offer” for Sanchez, thought to be €27m cash plus another €13m in performance-related bonuses.

Also included is co-ownership of forward Jeffren, but that is not going to happen because the player rejected the move.

“My son wants to play for Barcelona, or at most stay in La Liga or go to the Premier League,” Jeffren’s father told Rac1.

“He does not want to join Udinese.”

The player’s father also confirmed offers have come in from Valencia, Villarreal and Liverpool.

Jeffren is effectively the second Barcelona player to reject a move to Udinese as part of the Sanchez bid, as Bojan Krkic was initially linked to the deal.

      Sanchez deal hits Jeffren snag

      Sat, 02 Jul 16:39:00 2011

Barcelona's bid to sign Alexis Sanchez has run into difficulties following the news that Jeffren Suarez has no intention of moving to Udinese in part exchange.

Jeffren, 23, was included in Barcelona's "definitive offer" for the Chile international, which is reportedly worth as much as 40 million euros in total.

However, the deal is yet to be agreed and Jeffren has complicated matters further by saying he does not wish to move to Italy, according to his father.

“My son wants to play for Barcelona, or at most stay in La Liga or go to the Premier League,” Efren Suarez told Rac1.

“He does not want to join Udinese.”

Jeffren has attracted interest from Liverpool and it was reported on Saturday that Fulham are also interested in the player. Barcelona will now have to adjust their offer for Sanchez.

The Catalans saw off interest from Manchester City and Manchester United to become the favoured bidder for the forward, who at 22 is one of the most promising talents in world football.

Well, we've thought the same about Arbeloa, when he has arrived at LFC, at the age of 24 ... Jeffren, pretty much like Arbeloa, has spent too much time on the bench of his big boyhood club ... Now, at the age of 23, I think that he is ready to make his brake-through, since he obviously has the talent and ability ... In my humble opinion, Jeffren could turn out be one of the bargains of this transfer window ...

      Jol eyes Jeffren swoop

      04 July 2011

Martin Jol is reportedly trying to entice Barcelona forward Jeffren to Fulham this summer ahead of Premier League rivals Liverpool.

The Cottagers chief is hoping to bolster his attacking options having turned down the opportunity to prolong Eidur Gudjohnsen's stay at Craven Cottage beyond his six-month loan stint in the second half of last season.

And reports now claim that Jol has submitted a £7.2million offer to try and beat Reds boss Kenny Dalglish and Spanish La Liga outfit Valencia to the signature of 23-year-old Jeffren, who has recently helped Spain win the European Under-21 Championship in Denmark.

The player was linked with a possible move to Italian side Udinese as a makeweight in a deal which could have taken Chile star Alexis Sanchez to the Nou Camp.

But that failed to happen when Jeffren's father and agent revealed that he will only contemplate staying in Spain or moving to the Premier League.

If Barca accept the fee it will be down to Jol to persuade Jeffren to move to the Cottagers given that he will be well aware a switch to Liverpool would arguably give him a better chance of success in the future.

Barca winger keen on Premier League switch

      Published 12:52 05/07/11

Barcelona want to use winger Jeffren as a makeweight to sign Alexis Sanchez from Udinese, but the player would prefer a move to England, according to reports in Spain.

Barca are the only team to have made a concrete bid for Sanchez but the deal has hit a stumbling block as Jeffren is not prepared to join the Serie A club.

Fulham are believed to have already offered around £7m for the Spaniard, who was part of last month's victorious European Under-21 Championships team, although Liverpool are also interested.
