Kenny Dalglish two year deal is speculation says John W Henry

LIVERPOOL GIVE KENNY DALGLISH TWO-YEAR DEAL

Kenny Dalglish has been offered a two-year contract at Liverpool

KENNY DALGLISH has been offered a two-year deal and substantial transfer funds to become Liverpool’s permanent manager.

The 60-year-old Kop legend, who has transformed the club’s fortunes since replacing the sacked Roy Hodgson in January, had asked American owners John W Henry and Tom Werner for a four-year deal.

Henry and Werner were reluctant to look beyond two years but have promised a review if progress continues to be made under Dalglish.

Sunday Express Sport can reveal that Steve Clarke, who was brought in as a coach to work alongside Dalglish by Damien Comolli, Liverpool’s director of football strategy, is on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

It is understood that Dalglish wants a lucrative financial package to compensate for a lack of long-term security. Those negotiations are still going on.

Anfield commercial director Ian Ayre has been the conduit between the owners and Dalglish, travelling to the USA last week.

Dalglish has told the Liverpool board he must have a hefty transfer kitty available this summer to strengthen his inherited squad. Henry and Werner displayed their commitment to the club in the January transfer window, splashing the £50 million they received from Chelsea for Fernando Torres on Ajax’s Luis Suarez and Newcastle’s Andy Carroll.

They have told Dalglish they will repeat their transfer largesse in the summer – Comolli is already working on a number of big-name targets.

The owners are delighted with the progress under Dalglish, culminating in last Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United.

While Dalglish hoped to be rewarded with a four-year contract, he is ready to say yes to a two-year deal, providing the figures add up – both personally and in the transfer market.

KENNY DALGLISH HANDED TWO YEAR LIVERPOOL DEAL

KENNY DALGLISH was last night offered a two-year contract to land him the Liverpool job on a permanent basis.

And that’s a dream come true for King Kenny, who came to his beloved club’s rescue earlier this year after the departure of Roy Hodgson.

American owners John W Henry and Tom Werner have been delighted with the transition under Dalglish’s leadership in a caretaker capacity.

Dalglish, who celebrated his 60th birthday this month, didn’t hide his feelings about wanting the job full-time when he took control again at Anfield on January 8.

In fact, Dalglish was looking for a four-year deal, such was his delight to be back in charge at  Liverpool, the club he made 355 appearances for as a player and managed from 1985 until 1991.

But Henry and Werner have now decided to hand Dalglish a two-year contract and he will be delighted to put pen to paper in the next couple of weeks.

Was amazed that this deal wasn't set in stone long before now,so the sooner it's sorted the better.

On the bright side Stuey; the longer it takes to offer/agree a 'two year' deal, the longer Kenny will be here.  ;D

Maybe he should ask for a 4 year contract negotiation?

Absolutely made up with this news, it was pretty obvious that Kenny would get a deal, how could they refuse him after what's he's done and brought some stability back to the club.

well it does seem like he has asked for an even larger kitty to compensate. kenny does want to make the moves he knows is required.

I am sure we will see 6-10 players leave and at least five come in.

Longer would have been a big statement that the trash media would have been all over - and they'd have played back performances like West Ham & Braga as KK's fault (too long away, tactically naive - all b/s but's that's how it would have gone).

This way he's got the contract, gets the cash to spend and we're back on the front foot.

The main thing is the King has returned, we're on the mend and he's staying to finish the job. Well pleased

Anyway great new to wake up to. At least he can plan for the future now, and what a future that will be. :) 20 Years after he left, its time to pick up where he left off!

Quite understandable really, it all comes down to the owners not having the profound links to the club that the majority of supporters do. LFC is not part of their history with a loyalty that is a family tradition so they can appreciate the depth of support but have no way of matching it.
They can have no idea therefore what the club means to Kenny Dalglish on a personal level and the fact that it goes way beyond the parameters of a job where he is concerned, if the owners were born and bred LFC they would give Kenny the post for as long as he wanted it but they are businessman first and foremost so caution is the key.

The two year deal offered to Kenny is probably the aftershocks of FSG having to pay off Roy Hodgson, a man they did not even employ, its probably still fresh in the memory of Warner and Henry.

When you take Kenny out of the equation its actually a smart move by FSG as if things heaven forbid do not work out there would be no huge compensation package.

FSG know there is no risk at all of losing Kenny even on a short term contract as he eats sleeps farts and shites Liverpool F.C.

So anyway Congratualtions Kenny, I can't wait until our first summer window and first new full league campaign under him.

Interesting point made in the paper yesterday by Brian Reade. He said it would show a much greater signal of intent to give Kenny the contract now. Not after beating United, that would have been a "patronising pat on he head". But to give it to him after he came out on Thursday night and damned his players performance against Braga. This shows he's not here to make everyone feel good he's here for the "ruthless rebuild".

Well they must have read it too. :D

"Understood" being the key word, meaning they're guessing why it hasn't been signed yet.

Sounds like a money orientated hawk of a manager when we know Kenny has only one priority in mind - our glorious team.

It'll be coming, but I don't reckon he's been given it yet, wasn't this same story in last weeks People or Sunday Mirror and Kenny was laughing his head off about when he was asked last week after the manc game.

The Express is the same pile of sh*te as the Star, same group, so it's probably why both papers are running with it.

And if he was given a deal, the first place it will appear will be the official site.
