      I need another story
Something to get off my chest
My life gets kind of boring
Need something that i can confess

Tell me what you want to hear
Something that were like those years
I'm sick of all the insincere
So I'm gonna give all my secrets away

      Got no reason
      Got no shame
      Got no family
      I can blame
      Just don't let me disappear
      I'ma tell you everything

      Translated to English.

      Mom "Anarchy"

      A soldier was walking home
      And saw those guys
" Who is your mom, guys?"
      Asked the soldier
      Mom is Anarchy
Dad is a Glass of cheap wine
      All guys weared leather jackets
      All were little guys

      It's raining again,
I'm hearing its pitter patter down.
      It's wet in the street
Reflecting the lights and splashing feet,
      Nowhere to go,
And nothing I have to do, have to do.

      It's raining again,
I follow the Christmas lights down town.
      I'm leaving the flow
      Of people walking all around,
      Round and round,

I hear the sound of rain falling in my ears
Washing away the weariness like tears.
I can feel my troubles running down,
      Disappear into the silent sound.

      Just walking along,
My clothes are soaked right through to the skin,
I haven't a doubt, that this is what life is all about,
      The sun and the rain.
Scraps of blame washing down the drain.

I feel the rain falling on my face
I can say there is no better place
Than standing up in the falling down
In so much rain I could almost drown.

      It's raining again
A crack in the clouds reveals blue skies
      I've been feeling so low(low)
But now everything is on my side
      The sun and the rain.
Walk with me fill my heart again

I hear the rain falling in my ears
Washing away the weariness like tears.
I can feel my troubles running down,
      Disappear into the silent sound.

I feel the rain falling on my face
I can say there is no better place
Than standing up in the falling down
In so much rain I could almost drown.

Do de do do de do do do

The Levellers maid of the river

She's the maid of the river
      So beautifully plain
      As fresh as the country
      That gave her her name
      As crisp as the snow
And as swift as the rain
      She shone like the sun
      Before all of our games
      She shone like a jewel
But her price was not gold
      She cried more than most
      When her story was told
      But her people were evil
      Left her baron and cold
And her heart went to market
      Where her body was sold

      Chorus

I said hey hey won't you take me away
Because I can't see the point
In the dawn of the day
When so many killers gonna take you away
And leave little left except hatred

Always liked the opening line from 'Glass' by Incubus for some reason :

If I had a dime for every time you walked away,
I could afford to not give a sh*t
and buy a drink and drown the day

Absolutely love Madness mate, when i was growing up Suggs was my hero. Seen them live so many times, their music is timeless and reminds me of times when this country was our country. When we could be whoever we wanted to be without fear of reprisal.
      My personal anthem

      The Specials - Do Nothing

Each day I walk along this lonely street
Trying to find, find a future
New pair of shoes are on my feet
Cos' fashion is my only culture

      Nothing ever change, oh no...
      Nothing ever change

People say to me just be yourself
It makes no sense to follow fashion
How could I be anybody else
      I don't try, I've got no reason

      Nothing ever change, oh no...
      Nothing ever change

I'm just living in a life without meaning
I walk and walk, do nothing
I'm just living in a life without feeling
I talk and talk, say nothing

      Nothing ever change, oh no...
      Nothing ever change

I walk along this same old lonely street
Still trying to find, find a reason
Policeman comes and smacks me in the teeth
      I don't complain, it's not my function

      Nothing ever change, oh no...
      Nothing ever change

They're just living in a life without meaning
I walk and walk, do nothing
They're just playing in a life without thinking
They talk and talk, say nothing
I'm just living in a life without feeling
I walk and walk, I'm dreaming
I'm just living in a life without feeling
I talk and talk, say nothing
I'm just living in a life without meaning
I walk and walk, do nothing

Awesome track mate. Love the Specials. Boss.

A mile and a half on a bus takes a long time
The odour of old prison food takes a long time to pass you by
      When you’ve been inside
Day upon day of this wandering gets you down
Nobody gives you a chance or a dollar in this old town

Hovering silence from you is a giveaway
Squalor and smoke’s not your style
      “I don’t like this place”
      We better go
Then I compare notes with your older sister
I am a lazy gett, she is as pure as the cold driven snow
      She accepts my confession

What did you learn from your time in the solitary
      Cell of your mind?
There was noises, distractions from anything good
      And the old prison food
Colour my life with the chaos of trouble
Cause anything’s better than posh isolation
      1 missed the bus
You were laid on your back
With the boy from the arab strap
With the boy from the arab strap

It’s something to speak of the way you are feeling
      To crowds there assembled
Do you ever feel you have gone too far?
Everyone suffers in silence a burden
The man who drives minicabs down in Old Compton
      The Asian man
      With his love hate affair
      With his racist clientele

A central location for you is a must as you stagger about making free with your lewd and lascivious boasts
We know you are soft cause we’ve all seen you dancing
We know you are hard cause we all saw you drinking from noon
      Until noon again
You’re the boy with the filthy laugh
You’re the boy with the arab strap

Strapped to the table with suits from the shelter shop
Comic celebrity takes a back seat as the cigarette catches
And sets off the smoke alarm
What do you make of the cool set in London?
You’re constantly updating your hit parade of your ten biggest wa**s
      She’s a waitress and she’s got style
Sunday bathtime could take a while

Belle and Sebastian - The Boy With The Arab Strap

Underlined bit is the best line in a brilliant song.

I don't know, mate. I think sometimes lyrics are just too deep and personal to the writer that it's hard for the observer to fully appreciate them. Most of that went over my head.

Honesty Is No Excuse - Thin Lizzy Philip Lynott

Up till now I used to pass my time
Drinking beer so slowly, sometimes wine
No God, air, water or sunshine
And honesty was my only excuse
I took your love and I used it

Up till now my youthful stage
A useless rage, a torn out page, a worn out gauge
A dirty shade, a big charade, a has been made
And honesty was my only excuse
I took your love and I used it

      I never, I never, I never

Up till now my love life
A few sweet kisses, a little missus, a fork and knife
a happy home, a hand to hold, a land to roam
And honesty was my only excuse
I took my life in my own hands and I abused it

Up till now I used to tap dance
Take a girl by the hand saying I need your , I need your romance
Oh I had so many chances
And honesty was my only excuse
I took your love and abused it

Up till now the path of life was fair enough
Enough was fair, all was right
And now I know, I see the light
And honesty was my only excuse

      If you're so funny
Then why are you on your own tonight?
      And if you're so clever
Then why are you on your own tonight?
      If you're so very entertaining
Then why are you on your own tonight?
If you're so very good looking
Why do you sleep alone tonight?
I know because tonight is just like any other night
That's why you're on your own tonight
With your triumphs and your charms
While they are in each other's arms

      I Know It's Over - The Smiths
        :gt-happyup:

      so divided ( So Divided)

Hear the noise back in town
      Let's gather everyone
      And go see what they're
      up to now
      Driving in, Driving out
      From hotel to the bar
      All our friends are here
But somehow we seem so divided

      We're the voice crying out
      Screaming every song
      Not that anyone understands
      Diving in, Diving out
      the terrified crowd
      All our bands are here
But somehow they seem so divided
If you want to see where the fight is
      Look around...

I hear the sound of a voice inside my head
Saying things that I can't understand
Telling me a life may soon be dead I wonder from what hand
The words they say are too hard to conceive
I try my best to never listen
Can't you see I'm struggling to conceal
      These thoughts from everyone?
      It's not that I don't care
And I don't want to hurt you
It's just the worst I fear is coming out
      Coming out of me

You know I've heard you say that I'm not real
I know you think that I don't understand
Truth is I'm trying hard to deal
this is not what I had planned
      It's not that I don't care
      It's not that I don't love you
It's just that I am here
To put you out of your misery

All of you lovers who think you're in love
I'll put you out of your misery
All of your children born under the sky
I'll put you out of your misery
      venom that you can't conceive
Is pouring out of the depths of me
You think you're free, you've been deceived
I'll put you out of your misery
You think the future is warm and bright
But it is death and I am your destiny
You think you'll be protected by God
I'll put you out of your misery
I was put down to bring you down and put you out.

Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
      (You wanted to)

I don't think you trust in my
      Self-righteous suicide,
I cry, when angels deserve to die
      In my self-righteous suicide,
I cry, when angels deserve to die

      Father (father)
      Father (father)
      Father (father)
      Father (father)
Father into your hands, I commend my spirit
Father into your hands, why have you forsaken me?
      In your eyes, forsaken me
      In your thoughts, forsaken me
      In your heart, forsaken me

Oh, trust in my, self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
      In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die

      YES!

Every time I go out on the piss round the local rock pubs and clubs, I always seem to end up with my arms up and head back singing the chorus..

I don't think you trust, in, my,
      Self-righteous suicide,
I, cry, when angels deserve to die

I agree that this thread should be full of one or two lines from a song - not the full song.

Anyhow, I'll try to get down as many as mine as I can think of now:

The Smiths - This Charming Man
Punctured bicycle, on a hillside desolate
Will nature make a man of me yet?

(Got to be a pretty talented lyricist to start a song with "Punctured bicycle" and still make the lyrics and music sound great!)

      Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
Let it never be said, that romance is dead
'cos there's so little else occupying my head

(Even though i hardly rate the Kaiser Chiefs, that is stunningly poetic)

Arctic Monkeys - The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala
And did you ever get the feeling, that these are things she's said before?
Her steady hands may well have done, the devil's pedicure

      Coldplay - Yellow
Your skin, oh yeah your skin and bone
      turn in, to something beautiful

      Coldplay - Viva La Vida
I used to rule the world, seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone, sweep the streets I used to roam

      Coldplay - Amsterdam
Stood on the edge, tied to a noose
But you came along and you cut me loose

      Coldplay - The Scientist
Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

Dire Straits - Tunnel of Love
And the big wheel keep on turning, neon burning, up above
And I'm just high on this world, come on and take a low ride with me girl, on the tunnel of love

      Foo Fighters - The Pretender
What if I say I'm not like the others? What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays, you're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?

      John Lennon - Imagine
Hard to choose a few lyrics from this, lyrically it's possibly the best song of all time

Johnny Cash - When the man comes around
There's a man going round taking names, and he decides who to free and who to blame
Everybody won't be treated all the same, there will be a golden ladder reaching down, when the man comes around

      The Killers - Mr Brightside
It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss

The Killers - All these things I've done
I got soul but I'm not a soldier

Nirvana - Smells like teen spirit
I found it hard, it's hard to find, oh well whatever, Nevermind

      Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box
Broken hymen of your highness I'm left black
Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back

      Oasis - Live Forever
Maybe I just wana fly, wana live but don't wana die
Maybe I just wana breath, maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me, we see things I'll never see
You and I are gona live forever

Oasis - Rock 'n' Roll Star
I live my life for the stars that shine, people say it's just a waste of time

      Radiohead - No Surprises
A heart that's full up like a landfill, a job that slowly kills you
      Bruises that won't heal

The Smiths - There is a light that never goes out
And if a double decker bus, crashes into us,
To die by your side, is such a heavenly way to die

      Laughing - David Crosby

And I thought I'd seen someone
      Who seemed at last
      To know the truth

      I was mistaken
      Only a child laughing
      In the sun

      Ah, ah, ah ...
      In the sun

      ---------------------------------------------
Bob Dylan - Simple twist of fate
People tell me it's a sin
To know and feel too much within
I still believe she was my twin but I lost the ring
She was born in spring but I was born too late
Blame it on a simple twist of fate.

      --------------------------------------------------

The Beatles  - Strawberry fields forever

Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.
It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out.
It doesn't matter much to me.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------

RITUAL (NOUS SOMMES DU SOLEIL) - YES

Also, another lyrically brilliant song all the way through: Coldplay - Fix You
