      What have I become
      My sweetest friend
      Everyone I know
      Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
      My empire of dirt
      I will let you down
      I will make you hurt

Love them, especially when sang by Johnny Cash.

Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
Chained to all the places that he never wished to stay
Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
and as faced the sun he cast no shadow

Yeah the whole package of the lyrics, how he put the video across, the fact he was ill and frail when he did it

      Indeed.

I like the last line on it's own though.

Yeah the whole package of the lyrics, how he put the video across, the daft he was ill and frail when he did it

It's the images of him as a young man then cutting to Johnny sitting at the piano as an old man that is most powerful for me.

Utterly gorgeous song. Another Oasis classic. Just having a discussion with my brother on this choice of lyric below. It is well known by almost everyone but in the context of when it was written it is so poignant and meaningful. Definitely Maybe is an album about aspiration written and performed by a band that dreamed to live the lifestyle they would go on to lead. While (What's The Story) Morning Glory showcases that lifestyle at its most euphoric and uplifting (and then Be Here Now arguably showcasing the excess of it all!), Definitely Maybe was the album which represented the dreams of many working class folks growing up wanting to be rock and roll stars. It's a great moment in British music history and Live Forever typifies it best.

Maybe I don't really want to know
      How your garden grows
      I just want to fly
Lately did you ever feel the pain
      In the morning rain
As it soaks you to the bone

Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live I don't want to die
Maybe I just want to breath
      Maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

That's what Noel did, simplicity but stunning words that everyone can relate to

All we know is that we don't know
      How it's gonna be
      Please brother let it be
      Life on the other hand
      Won't let us understand
We're all part of the masterplan

Is anyone here prepared to say
Just what they mean or is it too late
For anyone here to try to do
Just what it takes to get through to you

      So let's all make believe
That we're still friends and we like each other
      Let's all make believe
That in the end we're gonna need each other

Straddle my hope and make me pray
To a god I've never seen, but I've betrayed
To the people who live the earth, the life in a place I'll never be til I'm crucified

      Won't you take me
Won't you take me to the edge of night and make me
Won't you make me walk into the light
      And there'll be no eyes
No eyes that see such beauty would lose their site
      And there'll be no lies
No lies that you could tell me to make things right

      And this one:

What tongueless ghost of sin crept through my curtains?
Sailing on a sea of sweat on a stormy night
      I think he don't got a name but I can't be certain
And in me he starts to confide

That my family don't seem so familiar
And my enemies all know my name
And if you hear me tap on your window
Better get on yer knees and pray panic is on the way

My pulse pumps out a beat to the ghost dancer
My eyes are dead and my throat's like a black hole
And if there's a god would he give another chancer
An hour to sing for his soul

Ditto. One of my all time favorite songs.

Another one that really hits me deep

      Underneath this smile Lies everything
All my hopes, anger, pride and shame

Make myself a pact, not to shut doors on the past
Just for today,... I am free

I will not lose my faith

"There's no swimming in the bottle, it's just someplace we all drown"

      More from The Master!

      All of the rumors
      Keeping me grounded
I never said, I never said that they were
      Completely unfounded
      And all those lies
      Written lies, twisted lies
      Well, they weren't lies
      They weren't lies
      They weren't lies

      I never said
      I never said
I could have mentioned your name
I could have dragged you in
      Guilt by implication
      By association
I've always been true to you
      In my own strange way
I've always been true to you
      In my own sick way
I'll always stay true to you
