No, only played as a striker for Japan because they lacked a good striker. Currently a deep lying playmaker for CSKA, has all the playmaker skills but I'm not fully convinced. He'd improve our team, but there should be better options out there, for less money maybe even.

Yeah, thought I posted the same thing but it gave me an error. Honda is a midfielder by trait, but wouldn't be my first choice buy.

He's a very versatile player though. The reason he wants to leave CSKA is because he doesn't like being a deep laying playmaker. He wants to play higher up the pitch so he can score and create goals.

I think Honda is a great player. Not sure he is what we need right now though. I'd love him here, but not at the expense of a winger or hard tackling midfielder

He has said he wants to move away from CSKA and they have said their open to offers. He have said that likes to play in the attacking third.

I've never heard him say he doesn't want to play deeper. I know he wants out of CSKA but that's because it's the Russian league. He has bigger aspirations. Owell. He's not just a striker, which was the point.

He played as a striker in the world cup. He's a very versatile player, can play left wing, right wing, center mid, defensive mid, striker and left back.

He really doesn't have a favorite position, he's pretty good in all positions. Although I think he plays best just behind the striker.

Been watching him for quite sometime now, I know where and how he plays. You just made it sound like he's only a support striker, which he isn't.

Slightly off-topic but seeing as you watch a fair bit of CSKA, what do you think of Schennikov - Everytime I've watched him I've been impressed but having said that it's not like I watch every single one of their matches.  Could play Kelly RB/Johnson LB (allowing us to spend the big bucks elsewhere) and when Kelly's rested/injured switch Johnson to RB and Schennikov at LB.  Would also provide competition/squad depth for the LM position, wouldn't be too expensive either.  Your thoughts?

Milan Badelj - will be Croatia's next big export, should move for him now while he's still at Dinamo Zagreb before a big team comes and gets him, he's currently 22 and operates in the "Alonso role" in the 4-2-3-1 national team setup or as a normal CM in a 4-4-2 setup (Dinamo) although sometimes they play a 4-3-3 usually when chasing a game (where he will play on either side of the more defensively minded CM). Will be bigger and better than Modric IMO, a bid in the region of £12m would probably secure him.

Agreed vitez mate on Milan Badelj, worth a risk, and not high risk I think. Don't know about his injury but in Wiki he played 112 games in his last 3 seasons it's ok.

I'm sorry if i wasnt clear, but the player you are describing, is a central playmaker imo.

Not neccessarily mate, could just be a good all rounder I'd say Javi Martinez fits all the criteria I posted but I wouldnt call him a play maker as such, he's more of a box to box midfielder.

For me all other than the ability to tackle well is a good playmaker, but might just be me who is off.

Would be want an established name or an up and coming?

Marco Reus who replaced Marko Marin at M'Gladbach is supposed to be the next big thing in Germany but even bigger prospect is Dortmunds  Mario Gotze

From my point of view, we need a good playmaker more than some good wingers, so i would say an established player.

If we need 2 central midfield players and 2 wingers (to supply Carroll) would someone care to explain to me where Gerrard and Mireles and for that matter Lucas Spearing Kuyt and possibly Maxi and Aquilani will be accomodated? Where the opportunities will be for players like Suso, Shelvey Coady and Sterling to develop?

Spearing and maxi shipped out, Aquilani is injury prone, Gerrard will fight with meireles for the more offensive minded midfielder, and lucas will be our defensive midfielder, Kuyt will be pushed to the bench if we land a good right winger.

So now the club captain and talisman might not get in the team, the guy whose goals have been as important as the arrival of KK in our recent revival might not get in the team, the guy who was borderline man of the match against Sunderland isn't good enough to stay at the club and a guy who gets slated on here nearly every week gets to stay in a role he can't play and doesn't really enjoy?
These new signings better be good and better hit the ground running in the Prem!!
