Rolando (FC Porto)

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish are following FC Porto centre-back Rolando according to the player’s agent.

Rolando, 25, signed for Porto in 2008 from Belenenses quickly establishing a successful partnership alongside Bruno Alves while also cementing his place in the Portuguese national squad.

Ferguson is currently weighing up his defensive options with long-term doubts over Rio Ferdinand, while Dalglish is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements at the back.

Rolando's agent, Peppino Tirri, told Notiziariosportivo.com that along with Inter Milan and Juventus, there was also English interest for the young stopper.

"There is also Manchester United and Liverpool following the player," said Tirri.

"I think something could move towards the end of the month, now the clubs are focused on the championship and the Champions League.

"His cost? Around €15 million."

Know absolute nothing about him, if he was English and was a regular with the international team at the age of 25 he would cost a lot more than that.

Portugese international. Playing alongside Carvalho for the national team. A bit like Pepe but far more reliable.  Very good player and would be a fine addition

For that money get him in

 Second that for 15 million euro would not be a bad buy.

Is he keeping Pepe out of the national team? If so, I'd take him in a second because both Pepe and (hate to admit it) Carvalho are top  class centre backs.

If it's this fella i'm thinking of , well he's pure quality . A bit slow but loves to put himself about .

To be honest, I can't see this happening because Kenny would never confirm his interest in a player. He goes about it the Liverpool way.

The agent has said we're intrest, if we're intrested then it will have been confirmed to the agent.

Just looked at his appearance/stats,he scores quite a few goals to. Hmmm!

He's 6' 2 1/2" and is 25. He was on the World Cup team but came off the bench according to his wiki. Couldn't find much else...This is a two year-old highlight video, but it gives a hint that he is great at headers.

Linked with him again today. I have only heard good things about the lad, but I doubt he will be leaving tbh. Porto just won the league last night, doubt they will sell another star player this year, especially after Meireles last summer. If they do, it may take more money than mentioned.

Meireles wasn't that much of a star player there, they certainly haven't had problems replacing him. Don't think Rolando will be that expensive, 15-20 million. Has a contract till 2014 I believe, so that's a downside.

He's made of the same stuff as Ronaldo so I'd have him.

Meireles wasn't their main player but he was fairly important to them, until his last season where he was very poor.

Portugal defender Rolando claims Manchester United and Liverpool want to sign him.

The Porto centre half’s agent Peppino Tirri said: “Two English clubs have asked about the subject with me but the decision rests with Porto.

"Rolando is a very talented player and it’s normal big clubs are interested.”

Rolando is under contract until 2014 and is valued at around £20m by Porto.
