John Barnes, LFC vs Southampton.  Dave Beasant runs out of his area to clear the ball and prevent a corner, clears to the half-way line, Barnes hits it back and it trickles in at the far right hand post, just out of reach of a despairing Beasant :lmao:

Yes, remember that one.  Serves him right for saying Wimbledon were the second best team in the country after the '88 FA cup final!

Even Stevie's goal against Southampton was very nice.

Stankovic's goal has to rank as one of the best of all time. I'm talking top 5. That is just out of this world. I was watching the other morning and as it travelled i slowly rose from my chair and went off when it went in. Trademark of a truly top drawer goal.

Superb technique, unbelievable accuracy, perfect touch and vision.

That goal was as straight as an arrow, totally bosses most half range goals because those are usually fumbling keeper error, and he took it in the air too...wow...

I wouldn't put it at top 5 but it's still a very good goal. It's unusual to score a volley from that position but that's partly down to the keeper abandoning his area in such a manner. When I'm judging how good an individual (rather than team) goal is I ask myself how many players around the world could do that? The truly great goals leave me thinking how was that possible-Carlos' free kick in Le Tournoi, Maradona v England, overhead kicks (that don't come off shins!), Van Basten v USSR, Messi v Getafe, volleys that burst the back of the net eg Shearer's.
      But nevertheless a quality goal.

The fact that Neuer was quite a distance from his goal made it easier to score but it wasn't an easy strike because it was a first touch volley!

Similarly, Alonso's 70 yard against Newcastle was also helped by the fact that Harper slipped.

Didn't someone from Blackburn or Wigan score a goal off a free kick REALLY deep in their own half last season? His name is escaping me but that goal I remember was quite impressive.

Haha not the video I was thinking of but that one was quite a good one. I believe he was South American or African, his surname is rattling around in my head I just can't put a finger on it.

IS it this one? Maybe not because it's not really deep in his own half.

figueroa against stoke city scores from beyond half way line!!

Ohh yes, that goal still gives me goosebumps!

Proper Quality: Marco van Basten stunning goal against USSR (1988)

To score a goal like that in a final, brilliant.

If we're talking about free-kicks, no thread would be complete without a montage of Juninho, the master and IMO greatest of all-time.  Apologies in advance for the Pet Shop Boys:
